The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, through the project – Sun4Water – Promotion of climate-friendly, water- and energy-efficient small-scale solar irrigation systems (SPIS)”, is opening applications for the selection of candidates for the Training of Trainers programme on solar-based irrigation systems in West and East Africa.
The Sun4Water project aims to promote the dissemination of approaches for the appropriate and sustainable use of climate-friendly, water- and energy-efficient solar-based small-scale irrigation systems in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Objective
- The aim of this capacity-building programme is to support the qualification of trainers (teachers from partner Educational Institutions and individual experts) in East and West Africa in conducting economically sustainable, demand-driven training on climate-friendly, water- and energy-efficient solar-based small-scale irrigation systems.
Target Audience
- The call is primarily aimed at individual experts with proven experience, offering one-off professional or academic training courses in the fields of agronomy, agricultural hydraulics (irrigation, etc.), agriculture/renewable energy nexus, or equivalent topics. In general, EIs teachers and trainers from extension institutions working in one of the mentioned fields, as well as individual consultants, may also apply for this call for proposals, regardless of whether or not there is a partnership with the project.
Geographic Focus
- This includes the six Sun4Water implementation countries indicated in green on the map below. Hence, individuals from the countries eligible for this expression of interest are: Senegal, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Nigeria in West Africa, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Malawi in East Africa.
Selection Criteria
The candidate or participant must:
- Qualification:
- Have a general or technical degree in agronomy, agricultural hydraulics (irrigation etc.), agriculture/renewable energy nexus, or equivalent subjects
- Have already conducted at least one (01) training in the fields of water, energy or agriculture
- Experience:
- Having at least two (02) years of experience in the fields of agriculture, rural engineering, agricultural hydraulics, water/energy/food nexus etc., renewable energies, or any other equivalent specialisation;
- Having at least two (02) years of experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of training/extension programmes in the fields of water, energy and agriculture;
- At least two (2) training/teaching references as a trainer for at least one of the categories of Sun4Water’s final target groups mentioned in the objective;
- At least one (01) reference of specific training/education dedicated to women in the fields of water, energy or agriculture would be an asset.
- Technical capacity
- Ability to identify training needs, develop teaching sheets and appropriate specific teaching/training modules.
- Ability to develop and implement flexible, participatory, inclusive and effective training/education.
- Ability to conduct training/learning sessions and to evaluate participants’ achievements.
- Ability to work with rural communities, small-scale producers and women’s groups.
- Ability to independently and proactively mobilise training opportunities for actors along the SPIS value.
- Requirements
- Capacity to/and availability to contribute to the programme.
- Be ready and willing to invest in kind through the provision of time, intellectual resources for the implementation of the project.
- Ability to participate in virtual training sessions with adequate equipment and stable internet access.
- Willingness to integrate gender into the planning, implementation and evaluation of training activities
- Willingness to participate in the collection of project monitoring and evaluation data related to the training activities.
- Successful candidates will receive a certificate of training and will be required to commit to delivering at least one module learned in their respective programme/institution of education/training.
