Submit Applications for Managing Global Governance Academy

Deadline: 16 March 2025

The Managing Global Governance Academy is a training and dialogue format for highly qualified early to mid-career professionals from global powers and the European Union.

It brings together experts from governmental institutions, think tanks and research institutions, civil society organisations and the private sector in Brazil, China, the EU, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa.

The programme targets (future) change makers who are dedicated to global cooperation and a transformation to sustainability and who are ready to develop their leadership skills through deep self-reflection and experience-based learning. Learning from diverse perspectives, developing transformation and cooperation competences, and building a trustful network to co-create solutions are the core assets of the MGG Academy.

What do they offer?

  • A global learning journey: Participants explore solutions for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and broaden their perspectives by learning from peers with other sectoral and national backgrounds.
  • A dialogue-oriented and interactive approach: The Academy combines a broad range of working methods, including practical experience and participatory approaches, training, lectures and discussions with experts, study trips and peer learning.
  • A life-long network: MGG participants build up intense interpersonal contacts to their peers and have access to the MGG network of institutions.
  • Staff qualification with a global perspective: MGG alumni contribute an international network and a global perspective. They have developed their leadership competences and possess a profound ability to address global governance issues in their institutions’ work.
  • Opportunities for new forms of cooperation: on innovative ideas, concepts and projects.
  • Partnership in a vibrant global network: of institutions from global partners and the European Union contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Benefits

  • Free participation in all components of the programme
  • Lodging during all stages of the programme
  • Monthly allowance to cover local living costs (in total, 2200 Euro, paid in three instalments)
  • Health, accident and personal liability insurances
  • Monthly ticket for local public transport
  • MGG Academy related travel costs in Germany and Europe.

Program Specifications

  • The Academy combines knowledge components on global sustainability challenges with the development of the participants’ leadership competences. In an action-oriented component, participants cooperate in small teams, engage with MGG network activities and apply the knowledge and competences they have acquired.
  • The MGG Academy is a laboratory for cooperation. Participants practice and enhance their competences to collaborate in highly diverse teams:
    • Knowledge: The academic modules provide a space for dialogue and mutual learning. They address current global governance and sustainability challenges. They focus on the overall question of how a transformation to sustainability can be fostered in times of polycrisis, growing polarisation and geopolitical tensions. This includes the discussion of topics such as climate change, digitalisation and inequality with international experts and practitioners.
    • Leadership: The leadership modules aim at strengthening individual and collective leadership competences. A strong focus is put on self-leadership, the reflection of own values and mindsets, and the identification of motivation and leverage points to unlock one’s own leadership potential.
    • Action: This component supports participants to move towards action and implementation. It consists of transformative skills workshops and a network in action week.
