The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced a call for support for two African researchers to participate in the International Hands-On Training Course: Utilising microbiome and genomic resources for understanding and mitigating antimicrobial resistance in the One Health context.
Through a variety of programme and initiatives, UNESCO supports research institutes, scientists, and researchers in their pursuit of scientific advancement. It also focuses on STEM education, offering resources and training for schoolteachers and students. Activities such as boot camps, workshops, seminars, webinars, and awards are all part of UNESCO’s efforts foster a thriving international scientific community.
The five-day international hands-on training course aims to tackle the pressing global challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR is a growing threat to human and animal health as it undermines the effectiveness of standard treatments thus jeopardizing food security and economic stability.
The course which will take place at the FAO Reference Center for Antimicrobial Resistance and Aquaculture Biosecurity at Nitte University, India, aims to equip researchers with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle AMR, therefore enhancing scientific capacity and fostering solutions that are vital for global health and sustainability.
