The Syrian Investigative Journalism Unit has announced the opening of applications for participation in an advanced training workshop on the basics of investigative journalism, targeting Syrian journalists who wish to develop their skills in producing in-depth investigative reports.
The workshop will be held in person in April 2025 for five days in Damascus and five days in Idlib, and includes practical training, exercises, and question-and-answer sessions with expert speakers.
Focus Areas
- The trainers will provide practical training on:
- Principles and ethics of investigative journalism
- Researching investigative research ideas and formulating an investigative hypothesis
- Preparing action plans for investigative investigations
- Select processing angles and check information
- Open research and digital verification tools
- Data collection and organization techniques
- Cross-border investigations and how to implement them
- Building sources and advanced interviews
- Methods of handling written and televised investigative reports
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a Syrian journalist with at least two years of professional experience
- Resident in Damascus and its countryside and Idlib and its countryside
Application Requirements
- Proficiency in English
- Internet research skills and use of search engines and Google tools
- Knowledge of Office basics
