Deadline: 19 April 2024
Are you in pre-university education/gymnasium and do you ever dream about studying for a year in the country of unprecedented opportunities after your exams? Does this seem like an almost impossible adventure for financial reasons? The Fulbright Commission is offering one fully sponsored scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year that will allow you to study and live at an American campus university for a year.
You can spend a year discovering new subjects, trying out activities and getting acquainted with American culture.
What does the Fulbright Commission do?
- The Fulbright Commission provides scholarships and advice about studying in America. If you are selected for this scholarship, they will guide you with your admission to an American university.
- You will be placed at one of the partner universities, where we will offer you several options. They will ensure that you receive scholarships from the university and pay the remaining costs of your studies and stay in the US for you.
- In addition, you will be well prepared for your departure to the US. The experienced employees will guide you and your parent(s) or caregiver(s) through the entire process. This way you can be sure that you are well prepared for your trip to the US. After arrival, you will be further guided by the university’s international office and you can always contact the Fulbright Commission for further questions.
What exactly does the grant cover?
- Without scholarships, the cost of studying in America usually ranges from $25,000 to as much as $70,000 per year. If you are selected for the fair, these costs will be reimbursed and they will arrange the following for you.
- A partial scholarship from American University.
- The Trailblazer Opportunity Scholarship is funded by the U.S. Embassy and covers the remaining costs of your tuition, room rental, meals, and participation in on-campus activities. These costs are estimated at approximately $20,000 for an entire academic year.
- The costs of your visa application and flight to and from the US. These costs are financed by the Tjallingh Roorda Travel Grant from the Tjallingh Roorda Foundation
- They will also pay for you:
- The costs of the mandatory entrance tests of American universities (English language test and SAT or ACT).
- Possible additional university health insurance.
- The cost of your guidance by the Fulbright Commission.
- Possible additional costs for you:
- Personal expenses during your stay in the US (such as clothing or vacations).
Who is the program intended for?
They attach great value to diversity. Both societies, the Netherlands and the United States, are characterized by diversity and they strive to ensure that this is reflected in the activities. They believe that bringing together people with diverse backgrounds makes a positive contribution to the personal and professional development of the participants and also helps to bridge contradictions. This program fits in with the policy of the Fulbright Commission to encourage young people who usually do not have sufficient resources and/or the right network to still go to America to study.
A number of conditions and selection criteria have been established for the Trailblazer Opportunity Scholarship
- At the time of registration, you are in year 5 of pre-university education/gymnasium and are achieving good study results.
- You have an open and inquisitive attitude and are socially involved.
- You have Dutch nationality. A second nationality is not a problem, unless it is American. Unfortunately, students with American nationality cannot participate in this fair.
- Your parent(s) or caregiver(s) demonstrably cannot pay the full costs themselves.
