The Geyser Community Foundation is accepting applications for the Beverley Anaru Memorial Scholarship.
The Beverley Anaru Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the whānau of Beverley Ratene Anaru QSM in her memory and as an enduring contribution to the educational achievement of Te Arawa descendants. The Fund provides scholarships for the advancement of education Te Arawa descendants studying at NZQA Level 4 or above.
Beverley Anaru was a skilled and passionate educationalist who gave over 60 years’ service to education. Her career spanned teaching, management, governance and advisory roles both nationally and internationally. Her work ethic, professionalism and passion for education were renowned in the local community, as was her commitment to seeing young Māori succeed through education.
The Geyser Community Foundation (“Geyser”) is honoured to have been chosen to manage the Scholarships on behalf of the Anaru whānau.
Priorities for Funding
- The Scholarships are available to full-time students who whakapapa to Te Arawa waka and who are enrolled at a New Zealand tertiary institute in a NZQA recognised course.
Categories
- Undergraduate Scholarship: For students enrolled in a NZQA recognised Bachelor degree or postgraduate certificate/diploma.
- Undergraduate Scholarship: For students enrolled in a NZQA Level 4 (or above) programme that is not a Bachelor’s degree.
Benefits
- Amount: $5,000 each.
Eligibility Criteria
- Preference will be given to those students who:
- have completed at least one year of study towards a qualification;
- have proven academic merit;
- can demonstrate commitment to Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga;
- can demonstrate commitment to Te Arawa iwi, hapū, whānau, marae;
- The Scholarships are awarded annually and are for a one-year period.
