MyBrainSc Scholarship Program – Malaysia

The MyBrainSc Scholarship is open to all Malaysian citizens who are currently or will be studying full-time at the First Degree and Post-Graduate level in the fields of pure science namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics at Public Universities (UA), Private Institutes of Higher Education (IPTS) and leading foreign universities.

This program is one of the agenda of the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) to achieve the goal of the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSPTN) and produce young scientists who dare to take on challenges and produce world-class scholars who are eventually recognized as Nobel Laureates.

Program Objectives

  • Produce sufficient teaching staff in the field of pure science to cover the needs of UA;
  • Encouraging excellent students to venture into the field of pure science to produce an innovative and highly specialized society;
  • Produce world-class Malaysian scientists who deserve the highest recognition such as Nobel Laureates; and
  • Making Malaysia a hub of academic excellence (center of academic excellence) on the world stage and further achieving world-class education status.

Categories

The application requirements are based on the following 3 categories:

  • First Degree
    • Candidates are Malaysian citizens;
    • Age not exceeding 21 years in the year of application;
    • Candidates obtained at least CGPA 3.60 and above at the Foundation Science/ Matriculation/ STPM/ Diploma level, Scale 1180/1600 for all tests in SAT, 40/45 in International Baccalaureate (IB) and 4A in A Level;
    • Students who are in the final semester at the Associate of Science/ Matriculation/ STPM/ Diploma level, Scale 1180/ 1600 for all tests in SAT, 40/45 IB Diploma and A-Level; and
    • The student has not yet received any scholarship/sponsorship/bond agreement from any sponsor.
  • Master’s Degree
    • Candidates are Malaysian citizens;
    • Age not exceeding 28 years in the year of application;
    • Candidates have obtained excellent results at the First Degree level in the field of pure science, i.e. obtained at least CGPA 3.75 or above or First Class and the study mode must be in full research mode;
    • Candidates do not have any contractual obligations from any sponsor during their previous studies or the sponsor is willing to waive the contractual obligations if this scholarship is offered;
    • Candidates who are currently serving in any public or private sector and are ready to resign if offered this scholarship;
    • The mode of study must be in research mode and full-time;
    • Candidates are studying at the Master’s level or have obtained a place to study in the field of pure science either domestically or abroad based on the list of universities that have been set by the Ministry; and
    • Have a remaining study period of at least 12 months in Semester 1, Session 2024/2025 for applicants currently pursuing Master’s studies.
  • Doctoral Degree (Phd)
    • Candidates are Malaysian citizens;
    • Age not exceeding 35 years in the year of application;
    • Candidates have obtained excellent results at Master’s level and at least CGPA 3.75 at First Degree level and above or First Class or equivalent in the field of pure science;
    • Candidates do not have any contractual obligations from any sponsor during their previous studies or the sponsor is willing to waive the contractual obligations if this scholarship is offered;
    • Candidates who are currently serving in any public or private sector and are ready to resign if offered this scholarship;
    • Candidates who are currently studying at Master’s level will be considered but the mode of study must be in research mode and full-time;
    • Candidates who are currently studying Ph.D or who have obtained a place to study in the field of pure science either in the country or abroad will be considered based on the list of universities that have been set by the Ministry; and
    • Have a remaining study period of at least 12 months in Semester 1, Session 2024/2025 for applicants currently pursuing Ph.D.

Eligibility

  • Eligible candidates will be bound by the agreement and the duration of the effective contract depends on the period of study funded by the Ministry. The Ministry reserves the right to withdraw sponsorship and impose compensation claims on candidates if;
    • The candidate is dismissed by the educational institution due to disciplinary problems, academic weakness or other reasons outlined by the terms of the program and this agreement; and
    • Candidates withdraw during the sponsorship period without prior permission from the Ministry.
