The artsnb with its Arts Scholarships program is awarding scholarships for full-time, part-time or short-term studies.
The Arts Scholarships Program is designed to recognize and encourage New Brunswick students who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent and potential, and who are pursuing a career in the arts.
Objectives
- The Arts Scholarships program is designed to:
- Recognize and encourage New Brunswick students who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent and potential, and who intend to pursue a career in the arts;
- Increase the number of professional artists and arts professionals in New Brunswick; and
- Encourage the development of New Brunswick talent in architecture, craft, dance, literary arts, media arts, multidisciplinary arts, classical and neoclassical music, theatre, visual arts and arts administration.
Funding Information
- $2,500 for full-time studies.
- $1,000 for part-time or short term studies.
Eligible Expenses
- Tuition fees, including administrative, course, and material fees for the proposed educational institution
- Travel for the applicant to the location of the proposed educational institution
Ineligible Expenses
- Capital expenses (eg. equipment purchase such as a musical instrument, camera, computer, etc.)
Eligible Projects
- Eligible projects are those in which the applicant intends to study one of the eligible artistic disciplines listed above (or arts administration) by enrolling in:
- A full-time or part-time post-secondary program; or
- A full-time program in a school specializing in the arts; or
- Short-term studies or mentorship with a private instructor
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible students are those who:
- Have completed relevant basic training and have demonstrated exceptional potential and talent as an artist;
- Are Canadian citizen, have an affiliation with a First Nation on Turtle Island, are permanent resident of Canada or have an application for permanent resident in process;
- Have resided in New Brunswick for at least one year (12 months) prior to the application deadline;
- Do not have an overdue Final Report for any previous Arts Scholarship awarded; and
Evaluation Criteria
- Jurors give equal weight to the following criteria in their evaluation:
- Artistic merit Artistic quality of the applicant’s work; Artistic rationale for the project; Potential artistic outcomes of the project
- Impact and feasibility Relevance of the project to the stated objectives of the program; Potential of the project to contribute to the applicant’s artistic development; Potential of the project to advance artistic practice; Applicant’s capacity and experience to undertake the project; Reasonable budget and realistic work plan
Application Requirements
- Architecture, Craft, and Visual Arts:
- Please provide up to 15 still images.
- (Performance artists only) Please provide up to 15 minutes of video material.
- Please indicate the title, medium and dimensions or duration (as applicable) and date of each work.
- Dance, Media Arts and Theatre:
- Please provide up to 15 minutes of video material.
- Please indicate the title, duration and date of each work, and specify the applicant’s role in the creation and/or performance of each work.
- (Scriptwriters and Playwrights only) Please provide up to 15 pages excerpted from storyboard(s) and/or script(s).
- Literary Arts:
- Please provide up to 15 pages excerpted from manuscript(s) and/or publication(s).
- (Storytellers, slam poets, and performers only) Please provide up to 15 minutes of audio and/or video material.
- Please indicate the title, page count or duration (as applicable), and date of each work.
- Music:
- Please provide up to 15 minutes of audio material.
- (Composers only) Please provide up to 15 pages excerpted from music score(s).
- Please indicate the title, duration, instrumentation and date of each work, and specify the applicant’s role in the creation and/or performance of each work.
- Multidisciplinary Arts:
- Please refer to the specifications for each discipline involved in the project.
