Applications for the AFS Global STEM Innovators: United Kingdom are now open for young leaders in the UK who are active global citizens and energized to help solve some of today’s biggest global challenges.
The AFS Global STEM Innovators: United Kingdom is a full-scholarship, 6-week domestic exchange programs for teens interested in exploring STEM, sustainability, and intercultural skills.
This program provides an exceptional opportunity to build critical intercultural skills and drive sustainability and STEM training that will help students thrive in a global economy. The program brings together diverse groups of students from around the United Kingdom for an exciting and enriching experience.
Innovators scholars begin with a 5-week online curriculum for young leaders, ages 15 – 17, focused on enhancing global competence skills and investigating the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Costs Covered
- Full program tuition for the 5-week online course and 1-week local workshop.
- AFS Global Competence Certificate, validating your program experience and reflecting your new skills.
- All costs and activities associated with the local workshop, including full room & board.
- Domestic travel to the in-person workshop.
- 24/7 Emergency support.
Eligibility Criteria
- Residence:
- The Innovators are designed to create local impact. Applicants should be legal residents of the United Kingdom.
- Birthdate: Between 1 January 2008 – 30 July 2010
- Participant age:
- Must be between 15–17 years old during program participation.
- Language:
- English
- Ability to participate fully online in a program conducted entirely in English.

- Interest in STEM, sustainability, and global competencies
- Curiosity and willingness to interact with diverse global peers and explore new cultures
- Ability to Travel:
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically (within your country) to attend the in-person workshop in your respective country.
- Technology:
- A computer, smartphone or other digital device to access the virtual program content
- An integrated webcam and microphone for participation in online dialogue sessions
- Stable internet or wifi connection
- Diversity:
- Talented young people, including young women, underrepresented populations, and students with high financial need, are strongly encouraged to apply!
