Scholarships support students who are earning their first certificate, diploma or bachelor’s degree and award lasts throughout all years of undergraduate education.
Funding Information
- WMI scholarships range from $300 USD to $3000 USD annually and are provided throughout the undergraduate education of the recipient. While the maximum scholarship is $3000 USD, they rarely award this high an amount. The average scholarship amount is $1500 USD.
- The scholarship may be used for:
- Tuition and fees
- Books and materials
- Room rent and meals
Eligibility Criteria
- The Ideal Candidate – A student, male or female, from a country in the developing world who:
- Successfully completed a secondary education, with good to excellent grades;
- Is 35 or under on March 1, 2024;
- Will be studying in his or her country or another country in the developing world;
- Is pursuing his or her first bachelor’s degree or diploma;
- Will be enrolled in a program of study that will benefit the community and/or contribute to the continued growth and advancement of his or her home country;
- Plans to live and work in his or her own country after graduation;
- Has demonstrated his or her commitment to giving back and has volunteered prior to applying;
- May have some other funds available for his or her education, but will not be able to go to pursue his or her tertiary degree without financial assistance.
- Language
- Applications should be completed in English.
- All documents can be supplied in other languages, with official English translations.
Scholarship Recipient Responsibilities
- Maintain good grades in all university studies.
- Be an ambassador for community service and engagement.
- Perform, record and document 100 hours of community service activities throughout the year.
- Complete the Academic Semester Report & Community Service Report for WMI Scholars.
- Send official semester transcripts twice a year.
- Communicate with the Student Scholar Coordinator openly regarding your situation as a student.
Ineligible
- They do not fund:
- Education at a college, polytechnic or university in the United States, UK, Australia, or Europe. Education in these countries, while excellent, is too expensive for the scholarship amounts to be effective.
- Masters or Doctorate degrees — they prefer to use the limited resources to assist young people in getting their initial tertiary degree. A medical degree, however, is acceptable.
- Laptop computers, conferences or trips Debts or past due tuition bills.
