Wilson Home Trust Equipment and Activity Grant (New Zealand)

The overall purpose of The Wilson Home Trust is to provide care and rehabilitation to “Children with Physical Disabilities” living in the “Qualifying Area” (being “eligible children”) and to provide respite and assistance to their “Families” and to work within the community living in the Qualifying Area to further such objectives.

Funding Information

• This grant is capped at $5,750 including GST for each child/young person that qualifies from birth to 21 years old.

Eligibility Criteria

• Grants can be made in respect only of children and their families (“Family” means parents, whanau, primary care givers and/or siblings) who fit the following criteria:
  • Age: Children/Young Adults are age 21 or under.
  • Physical disabilities are those which primarily impair function of body and/or limbs. Additional sensory (vision, hearing,) and intellectual (cognitive, behavioural, mental) disabilities may be present, but will not be the primary reason for the funds requested.
  • The child or young person’s disability needs to be described in terms of the impairments, activity limitations and/or participation restrictions, as per the terms used by the World Health Organisation: “Disabilities is an umbrella term, covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. An impairment is a problem in body function or structure; an activity limitation is a difficulty encountered by an individual in executing a task or action; while a participation restriction is a problem experienced by an individual in involvement in life situations”. Causes may include a range of medical diagnoses, congenital or acquired.
  • Location
    • They must live in the Qualifying area described by the Trust Deed – for convenience only this area is described as being in the upper half of the North Island
  • Financial need
    • To demonstrate a financial need, the parent/caregiver is required to have a Community Services Card (this does not include the child’s Community Service Card).
    • A copy of the parents / caregiver Community Services Card must be attached to the application.
