U.S. Embassy Zambia Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program

Priority Areas

• Priority areas are as follows:
  • Strengthening and expanding capacity in sectors relating to mining and critical minerals.
  • Strengthening transparency by fostering an independent and professional media.
  • Combat the illegal timber and mining trade.
  • Promoting entrepreneurship and business development, or business climate reforms.

Funding Information

• Award Amounts: Awards may range from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $40,000
• Program Performance Period: Proposed projects should be completed in 12 months or less.

Participants and Audiences

• Proposals must identify a clearly defined target audience that the project seeks to influence or impact.
• Well-defined audiences are countable and accessible through the project’s activities.
• Proposals should specify the changes in knowledge, understanding, attitudes, or behavior change in attitudes or behavior action that they seek with the project—and how they plan to measure these outcomes.
• The Public Diplomacy Section is particularly interested in projects based in rural areas, small cities, and Copperbelt and North-Western Provinces.

Eligibility Criteria

• The following organizations are eligible to apply (both U.S. and Zambian):
  • Registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations
  • Public and private educational institutions
  • Individuals
  • Public International Organizations and Governmental institutions
• All organizations must have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) issued via SAM.gov as well as a valid registration on SAM.gov.

Ineligibility Criteria

• Applicants should be able to document their experience implementing similar projects.
• For-profit businesses or commercial entities are not eligible to apply.
• Programs relating to partisan political activity;
• Programs that support DEI efforts;
• Charitable or development activities;
• Construction programs;
• Programs that support specific religious activities;
• Fund-raising campaigns;
• Lobbying for specific legislation or programs;
• Scientific research;
• Programs intended primarily for the growth or institutional development of the organization;
• Programs that duplicate existing programs.
