Variety BeKids Grants provide practical equipment to help West Australian kids experiencing disadvantage to help them get out and about in the community. The items funded will help kids access the community, extracurricular endeavors and support their wellbeing.

Eligible Expenses
- Bike or scooter (non-motorized) (school age children only)
- Prescription glasses
- Extracurricular supplies (sport uniform/equipment)
- Play equipment (remote areas only)
Eligibility Criteria
- You are eligible to apply for a Variety BeKids grant provided the following criteria are met:
- Child must reside in West Australia.
- Child is aged 0-17.
- Child is experiencing financial disadvantage and may also have a long-term health condition or disability.
- The annual family household income is below the guide.
- Equipment is not available via government funded or alternative service.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Items where funding is available from the government or other grant funds.
- Individuals 18 years of age and older.
- Projects that require recurring funding.
- Expenses considered to be part of an individual’s typical cost of living.
- Travel expenses – including public transport and petrol.
- Retrospective expenses.
- Incomplete application forms.
- Services or therapies.
Application Requirements
- An application can be completed by a parent/carer or approved third party, if consent has been authorised (Social Worker, Support Worker etc).
- If completed by a third party, it is essential that the third party lets us know in the application, that they have been authorised to do so, and for what reason (for example, accessibility issues, lack of understanding).
- Applicants will be expected to submit a truthful and factual application and attach relevant documentation as evidence where requested.
- Income details to verify income are required (this includes any/all income received by any parent/carer who is financially responsible for the beneficiary to confirm annual household income):
- Payslips – FT/PT work (dated within 3 months).
- Centrelink statements (dated within 3 months).
- Most recent ATO notice of assessment (for self-employed).
- Provide costing proof or quote(s) for the items. Screenshots, photos and quotes are acceptable as long as they are clear, readable, and remain valid for duration of application process:
- Equipment must be sourced from suppliers that are price competitive.
- Equipment must be within the request limit.
- Whilst a supporting referee is not required for a BeKids application, it may be beneficial for you to attach one with your other documents, to give further information about your situation from an external source (social, case worker, teacher, coach for example). If the Committee feels that your application is not strong enough, they may come back and ask for additional information which can delay your outcome.
