The Health New Zealand is seeking applications for its Pitomata Grant Program to support an inclusive workforce encouraging Māori into health careers.
The grants can contribute to tuition fees, course related costs and living cost for eligible students of Māori descent, undertaking a course in a health-related field through an accredited New Zealand Qualifications Authority provider or through a provider supporting the education of future Rongoā Māori practitioners.
Categories
- The three categories supported are:
- Rongoā Māori: The Rongoā Māori category acknowledges the importance of traditional Māori healing practices in the health sector.
- Clinical Undergraduate: The Clinical Undergraduate category targets ākonga Māori pursuing undergraduate studies in health-related fields.
- Clinical Postgraduate: The Clinical Postgraduate role focuses on supporting ākonga Māori undertaking postgraduate studies in a health-related discipline.
Funding Information
- The grant consists of:
- up to: $2,000 per successful Rongoā applicant
- up to: $5,000 per successful Clinical Undergraduate and
- $8,000 per successful Clinical Postgraduate applicant.
Eligibility Criteria
- Rongoā Māori:
- be of Māori descent
- studying or working in the health sector:
- studying Rongoā Māori full time at an approved tertiary provider in New Zealand or
- Training and learning alongside a rongoā māori practitioner (tohunga) for a minimum of 100 hours
- have endorsement from a rongoā māori practitioner/mentor supporting the applicant’s practice.
- Clinical Undergraduate:
- be of Māori descent
- studying or working in the health sector
- enrolled at an approved tertiary provider in New Zealand
- enrolled in a related course at NZQCF Level 7 and above. The subcategories of the clinical undergraduate are medical and dentistry, midwifery, nursing and all qualifications within AHS&T (Allied Health, Scientific & Technical)
- Clinical Postgraduate:
- be of Māori descent
- studying or working in the health sector
- enrolled at an approved tertiary provider in New Zealand
- enrolled in a related course at NZQCF Level 7 and above in a postgraduate program
- your programme of study must be ‘front facing’ pathway.
Application Requirements
- Proof of Identity: Birth Certificate, Driver’s License, Passport or Kiwi Access Card (18+card).
- Proof of whakapapa: Verification is required by an authorised representative from an IWI or Community Organisation who is willing to attest to Whakapapa ie from a Rūnanga Office. Kaumātua, Māori Trustee or Committee member, Māori Liaison Officer.
- Proof of your course enrolment: Official Letter of acceptance of full and current enrolment into your course of study.
