Submissions are now open for Literature French Speaking Projects to support literary activities through grants to artists, ad hoc groups, collectives and Francophone organizations in Ontario.
The program aims to reflect the range of artistic practices in the French literature community in Ontario by highlighting the following genres: poetry, novel, short story, dramatic writing (play), children’s and young adult literature, literary or artistic criticism, essay, work of reflection and analysis that is not academic in nature, memoir, biography, comic strip, graphic novel, dub poetry, vocal poetry, performance poetry, storytelling or other genres of oral literature.
Categories
- The program has three categories:
- Creation – book-length work : to allow writers to continue or complete writing a book-length work.
- Creation/recording – oral literature work : to enable oral literature artists (e.g. literary performance, storytelling) to create a work for public performance or to record their own repertoire.
- Presentation/Influence : to enable ad hoc groups, collectives and organizations to implement projects whose objective is to vitalize the French-speaking literary sector (for example, collective writing projects, presentations of works to an audience, meetings).
Funding Information
- Creation – book-length work: maximum $12,000
- Creation/recording – work of oral literature: maximum $8,000
- Presentation/Influence: maximum $12,000
Eligibility Criteria
- Creation and Creation/Recording Categories:
- Professional authors and spoken word artists who reside in Ontario.
- To be eligible, you must also have met one of the following conditions:
- Have published at least one book with a recognized publisher.
- Have published at least three separate pieces of work (essays, short stories, poems, or other works) for which you have been paid (works that have won a competition are considered published).
- Hold a publishing contract for a first work (other than the one that is the subject of the application).
- Have written a play that has been published or professionally produced.
- Having written a feature film that has been broadcast at a festival, on television or in theaters.
- Be a professional screenwriter with at least two writing production credits for which you have been paid.
- Have a track record of public presentations of dub poetry, sound poetry, performance poetry, storytelling or other genres of oral literature. Reading of texts is eligible only if it is of a highly performative nature.
- Individual artists representing a group of artists – If you are creating a work in collaboration with one or more other artists (including a mentor), one of the artists must apply on behalf of the group. If the grant is awarded, the artist in question will receive a T4A slip and will assume responsibility for the grant on behalf of the collaborators. You may wish to attach a group history or a CV for each artist.
- Presentation/Influence Category:
- Ad hoc groups and non-profit collectives composed of professional literary artists and of which at least 50% of the members reside in Ontario.
- Non-profit organizations that have a head office in Ontario.
- Book and periodical publishers whose head office is in Ontario. They may be of the following types:
- a not-for-profit corporation incorporated in Ontario and having its head office in Ontario
- a national not-for-profit corporation headquartered in Ontario.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Creation and Creation/Recording Categories:
- Non-professional authors
- Presentation/Influence Category:
- Municipalities, colleges and universities.
- Companies incorporated for profit.
- Organizations that receive an operating grant from the CAO of the Francophone Arts Service Organizations – Operation program.
