Applications open for Documentation Grant Program to provide assistance to New Brunswick arts professionals and professional artists for the research, development, and execution of original documentation and contextualization (written, film, video, multimedia) of arts activities, arts products or art history.
Documentation grants are intended to foster theoretical and critical discourse in the arts. Preference will be given to proposals concerning New Brunswick art or artists.

Eligible Projects
- Eligible projects include the research, development, and execution of original documentation and contextualization of arts activities, arts products or art history. Examples of such projects include, but are not limited to:
- An art critic or independent curator curating a retrospective exhibition of a New Brunswick artist or group of artists
- A documentarist creating a documentary film on a New Brunswick artist or group of artists
- A performance art critic writing a collection of critical texts on performing arts centres, performers, or collectives in New Brunswick
- A literary editor or professional writer curating a collection, podcast, or reading performance series featuring works by New Brunswick writers
Ineligible Projects
- Ineligible projects also include:
- Projects produced for the purposes of academic credit or as part of basic training;
- Projects produced as part of the applicant’s work as an employee of a private or public organisation or institution, including their work as an employee in education, academia, or journalism;
- Projects which are intended to form part of a new business, an organization or a production studio;
- Promotional projects such as the preparation and production of marketing or publicity materials, the preparation of a portfolio, the framing of works, invitation cards, or any other material for an opening or a launch
Eligible Expenses
- Subsistence (living allowance) up to $2,000 per month for the primary applicant only
- Artist fees for any relevant artistic collaborators, if applicable
- Execution costs related to the realization of an eligible project including costs for purchase of rights, research, production and distribution
- Transportation and accommodation costs for the primary applicant for travel further than 150km from home
Ineligible Expenses
- Capital expenses (eg. equipment purchase such as a musical instrument, camera, computer, etc.)
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for artsnb funding, an applicant must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, have an affiliation with a First Nation on Turtle Island, be a permanent resident of Canada or have an application for permanent resident in process;
- Have resided in New Brunswick for at least one year (12 months) prior to the application deadline;
- Must qualify as a professional artist according to the guidelines.
- Applicants who do not meet the professional artist criteria may apply if they can demonstrate equivalent qualifications and can demonstrate professional curatorial, critical, editing, or equivalent work in their discipline.
- Applicants who present a project in a discipline other than the one in which they normally operate must have at least one presentation or work in that discipline in a professional context.
