The Asia New Zealand Foundation is now requesting proposals for its Arts Practitioners Fund to support New Zealand-based arts practitioners by offering experiential opportunities to strengthen artistic and professional connections with Asia.
This includes residencies, work placements, research tours, and exchanges.
Funding Information
- Applicants may request up to $7,500 from this fund.
Eligible Activities

- A self-organised residency at a selected professional arts organisation aimed at growing the individual practitioner’s understanding and awareness of cultural and artistic practice in Asia.
- A structured research tour within Asia aimed at developing an individual arts practitioner’s knowledge of the Asian arts sector, including opportunities for exhibition or presentation in Asian markets, or for the identification of Asian work for presentation in New Zealand.
- Attendance at a significant arts event, such as a fair or market aimed at developing an individual arts manager’s own curatorial or presentation networks with a view to presenting Asian work in New Zealand.

- Living Costs (to be determined based on actual costs in target location)
- Ground transport
- Fees for residency/conference/market registration.
Eligibility Criteria
- All applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and are intending to continue to live in New Zealand for at least one year after they complete the project.
- Contestable arts funding is for:
- individual artists, including visual artists, writers, musicians, choreographers, directors and performers
- individual arts managers, including curators, producers, programmers.
- The funding is for current practitioners who have a track record of professional achievement.
Application Requirements
- Foundation funding recipients are expected to:
- provide a 600-700-word article for the Asia New Zealand Foundation website, including photos (to be submitted while undertaking the grant activity or within two weeks of completion)
- submit a report on their experience accounting for how the grant money was spent (further details will be provided to successful applicants)
- seek opportunities to share their experience on return to New Zealand
- remain engaged with the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
