The DevNet Pacific Development Research Grants are open to postgraduate students, early-career, and mid-career researchers at universities in the South Pacific region (excluding French and American territories, as well as Pacific researchers studying or working at institutions in New Zealand and Australia) who are actively engaged in research on development issues.
Goal
- The goal of the Grant is to support early and mid-career researchers in the Pacific in designing and leading their own research projects, as well as to provide doctoral candidates and master’s students at Pacific Island universities with the support they need to complete field research for their theses.
Objective
- The Grant will support Pacific scholars in ensuring that development questions important to Pacific Island researchers are prioritised. It will also enable DevNet to further its goal of facilitating and supporting Pacific researchers in conducting their own research while making new international development research more accessible.
Funding Information
- Grants will be valued at:
- Mid-career, Early career researchers: $4,000 to $6,000
- PhD Students: $4,000 to $6,000
- Masters students: $2,500 to $4,000.
Eligible Costs
- Costs eligible to be covered by the grant:
- flights (cheapest available economy fares);
- travel and health insurance;
- domestic travel such as bus, ferry, taxi, and train (cheapest available, safe, and practical means);
- safe accommodation at an appropriate and reasonable cost;
- daily allowance of $40 (to contribute towards food and incidental costs);
- other reasonable costs critical to the success of the research (such as interpretation or translation support, koha for research participants, stationery, transcription services, or survey tools).Please note that capital expenditure is not eligible for this award.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible to apply for an award, applicants must:
- Be a Master’s and PhD student, early career, and mid-career staff member at a university located in the South Pacific region (excluding French and American territories and Pacifika who are studying and working at New Zealand and Australian institutions )
- Be of Pacific nationality
- Have received (or will receive prior to commencement) university ethics approval to conduct the research.
- Have received (or will receive prior to commencement) approval to conduct research from the appropriate government authorities of the country on which research will be conducted.
