Deadline: 4 September 2024
In partnership with the Stoneygate Trust, Kidney Research UK is inviting applications for a UK hub for Alport syndrome research dedicated to the study and treatment of Alport syndrome.
Alport syndrome can affect hearing and sight, as well as causing kidney problems. This second call is seeking research ideas that could help us understand more about one or more of these problems.
The funders expect to enhance the existing collaborative network and raise the profile of Alport research within the UK and internationally.
This UK hub encompasses a physical hub with in-vitro and ex-vivo methodologies, a virtual hub of patients with abnormal Alport genes and three funded projects exploring biomarkers for disease progression and increased susceptibility to kidney damage.
Aims
- The hub aims to:
- accelerate research
- transform early diagnosis
- develop specific treatments for the disease
Funding Information
- They welcome applications for a research project for up to £250k over a maximum of three years.
Benefits
- Your idea may be the next research project to align with the UK Hub.
- Your research would be funded as the next exciting project and led by you, from your institution whilst being collaboratively linked with the UK hub.
Eligibility Criteria
- All applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and the research project and work and/or employment must also take place in the United Kingdom. Kidney Research UK does not fund research outside the United Kingdom.
- Collaborators and Co-investigators may be based outside the UK. With full justification, Co-investigators may be involved in delivering smaller aspects of the research for the Lead Applicant.
- All grants must be held with a host institution, which can be either a UK University or NHS Trust. Not-for-profit organisations, SMEs or companies are not eligible.
- Applications are not accepted where the Lead Applicant already holds three or more concurrent active Kidney Research UK awards, excluding PhD Studentships and Startup awards.
- Lead Applicants may only submit one grant type Expression of Interest application in any twelve-month period.
- You may be already planning or carrying out research into Alport syndrome or your research may support and be translatable to Alport syndrome.
