Open Call: South Australian Wildlife Rehabilitation Grants Program

Objectives

• Support the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector by increasing their ability to respond to and care for sick, inured or orphaned wildlife by providing funding for items which directly assist the provision of these services.
• Improve animal welfare outcomes for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.

Funding Information

• $50,000 is available to distribute to South Australia’s volunteer wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector through the second round of this program.

Eligible Activities

• Infrastructure and equipment such as enclosures, incubators, shelters and portable cages
• Food for native wildlife
• Veterinary fees
• Training and conference attendance fees for carers (including first aid training, wildlife rehabilitation courses)
• Personal Protective Equipment
• Vaccinations (where applicable)
• Research relating to rescued wildlife

Ineligible Activities

• The project or activity has already been completed or equipment purchased prior to the grant agreement being fully executed by both parties;
• The project or activity requires ongoing or recurring Government of South Australia funding to be sustainable;
• The applicant has already received assistance from the Government of South Australia or other relevant grant funds to achieve the same project outcomes;
• The project/activity/physical structure proposed is not compliant with relevant legislation;
• The project or activity is for work undertaken outside of South Australia, or in relation to the rehabilitation of animals that are not held within South Australia.

Eligibility Criteria

• To be considered for funding, organisations must:
  • Be not-for-profit;
  • Be incorporated;
  • Be a volunteer organisation, or involve volunteers;
  • Be wildlife rescue organisations whose members hold current permits for the type of rescue activity they undertake;
  • Be an organisation that supports or provides a service to the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector in South Australia.
• To be considered for funding, individuals must:
  • Be aged 18 years and over at the date of application;
  • Hold a current permit to rescue, rehabilitate, and release or retain protected wildlife in accordance with the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972;
  • Have submitted an annual permit return;
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with the requirements of the National Parks and Wildlife (Wildlife) Regulations 2019.

Assessment Criteria

• How the application demonstrates the grant funding will improve animal welfare outcomes for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.
• Accurate quotations for requested items, and suitability of the requested items for the support the native wildlife.
• Value for money.
• Demonstration of applicant’s capability to deliver the grant.
