Eligibility Criteria
- Fritt Ord mainly funds projects in Norway (or with ties to Norway). Under certain circumstances, however, the Foundation can help promote freedom of expression in other countries. While Fritt Ord can provide support multi-year projects, it ordinarily awards funding for just one year at a time.
Application Requirements
- To apply to Fritt Ord for support, you must complete a short application form and attach a detailed project description, a budget and a funding plan, your CV and any other requisite information. The project description is the most important document.
- The digital form must be completed in full. It is recommended that applicants have all relevant information at hand before starting to complete the application form. In addition, all documents that are uploaded should be final versions. The project description and the budget should be uploaded separately, so they should be separate documents. Applications will not be accepted without the following attachments:
- Project description: a clear, concise description of the project. The project description should be two to eight pages long.
- A budget and a funding plan: a funding plan lists project costs, self-financing, the project’s anticipated revenues, other support that has been pledged, and other applications that are still pending.
- Applicants can also upload other documents that are relevant for processing their applications:
- CV: a curriculum vitae is a resumé containing concise information about the qualifications of an individual or group involved in the project. Where several people are involved, CVs should be collected in one single file.
- Other attachments: This depends on the kind of project in question, but other attachments may, e.g. be excerpts from manuscripts, limited to 1-2 chapters, a letter of intent with a publishing house regarding a book publication, a broadcasting agreement with a TV channel, press clippings or statements of support.
- The application form per se requires that the following fields be completed:
- Brief description of the project
- Exactly what the support will be used for
- A time table, e.g. schedule of events, duration, number of man-months of labour, etc.
- These fields must be completed, even if the points have also been explained in the attached project description. Please be aware that the fields in the form are limited to 500 characters. They encourage applicants to use the entire field.
