The National Bank of Slovakia is requesting applications for its grant program to support projects for the development of economic and financial research.
Focus Areas
- Strengthening
- Implementation of proven and expanded established educational and mentoring programs, which can also be part of regular and systematic work with target groups (clients of institutions, members of organizations),
- Use and dissemination of proven methodological materials in financial education,
- Training financial literacy multipliers: teachers, youth workers, social workers, mentors, tutors, lecturers and others who work with primary vulnerable target groups with the aim of expanding their competences in this area;
- Innovation
- Updating existing or creating and piloting new and innovative educational or mentoring programs in the field of financial education,
- Updating existing ones or creating and piloting innovative methods, adapted to target groups, using new trends and approaches in education,
- Linking formal and informal financial education, expanding to include peer and
- Lifelong financial education;
- Immediate
- Creation and verification of innovative information, promotional and media tools that help with financial education of target groups in a modern and understandable way (support for gamification, development of applications usable in financial education),
- Spreading awareness, raising public awareness about the importance of financial literacy and promoting financial education in various ways that effectively and clearly address target groups,
- Use and dissemination of available sources of information in the field of financial education and protection consumer of financial products and user of financial services;
- Data
- Research or survey aimed at measuring the level of financial literacy of individual target groups, obtaining regular, relevant and trustworthy data in the area of financial literacy (e.g. on the current behavior of the population in relation to financial products and their use),
- Creation of analyses based on the obtained data, which are the basis for updating educational methods and objectives; creation of strategic measures by competent authorities at various levels.

- Minimum amount: EUR 5,000.
Eligible Expenses
- Wage expenses and fees, including mandatory employer contributions for persons providing management, administrative and professional activities of the project only to the extent of expenses that cover participation in the project in accordance with the call, b) travel expenses – reimbursement of travel costs for the transportation of organizers and participants of project activities on travel reimbursements, as amended,
- Accommodation – payment of accommodation for organizers, professional staff and direct participants in project activities,
- Food provision of food and refreshments for the organizers, professional staff and participants of activities depending on the specifics of the target group, the nature and duration of the activity,
- Material material and technical support for project activities,
- Services payment for services that are necessary to ensure project activities,
- Other costs energy fees, rent, internet, telephone, use of applications, rental of external premises, rental of external equipment and others, to an extent appropriate to the complexity and scope of the project.
Ineligible Expenses
- Repayment of loans and advances or interest on loans and advances received, including other accessories to the receivable,
- Repayment of leasing, related fines and penalties, as well as other accessories to the receivable,
- Repayment of commercial insurance premiums paid in Slovakia and abroad, related fines and penalties and other accessories to the claim,
- Refund of expenses and liabilities from previous accounting periods,
- Payment of fees for banking services, customs duties, other fees paid state or municipality,
- Payment of any taxes, except VAT, on the purchase of goods or services for the purposes of project,
- Reimbursement of expenses for the purchase of land and other real estate, including expenses for their reconstruction,
- Reimbursement of expenses for the acquisition, repair and maintenance of means of transport and transport equipment,
- Reimbursement of capital expenditure and expenditure incurred on the acquisition of used tangible assets not related to the project,
- Payment of remuneration or wage expenses to persons participating in the project for activities not related to the project,
- Reimbursement of operating expenses and costs not related to the project,
- Repayment, payment, refund of other expenses that do not relate to the project and are not in accordance with the purpose of the call.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible to receive a grant, an applicant must be a legal or natural person engaged in scientific research activity who is able to present proof of such activity. In the case of legal persons, the fact that they conduct research and development must be stated in their statutes or in their memorandum or articles of association before the announcement of the call. Natural persons must prove their scientific research activity by their educational attainment and work experience.
- Eligible recipients of a grant include:
- Public research institutions;
- Public, state or private higher education institutions;
- Non-profit organisations,
- Civic associations,
- Associations of legal persons conducting research and development;
- Foreign institutions of a similar nature to an entity referred above;
- Doctoral students on behalf of an applicant;
- Scientific researchers on behalf of an applicant or on their own behalf as natural persons.
- An eligible applicant is required to demonstrate engagement in scientific research activity by providing information or documentation proving that the head of the scientific research team or the project’s expert supervisor has published an academic article in a journal.
- Where the application for a grant to support a project for a legal person is submitted by a doctoral student or scientific researcher, that representative must also submit the consent of their immediate superior (being a head of department or other organisational unit at the institution where the representative studies or works).
- Each applicant that is a natural person may submit only one application in the present call.
- An employee of NBS may be a member of the applicant’s project team or serve as a consultant on the project or as its expert supervisor, etc.; however, they must perform this activity without remuneration.
- An applicant from the Slovak Republic cannot be an entity that:
- Has arrears in taxes, health and/or social contributions and/or fails to fulfill these obligations in relation to its employees,
- Is not of good repute, whereby a person is considered to be of good repute if he/she has no record in the criminal record kept by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Slovak Republic pursuant on the Criminal Record and on the Amendment and Supplementation of Certain Acts, as amended; in the case of legal entities, all members of the statutory body of this legal entity, as well as all members of the supervisory body, if any, must also be persons of good repute,
- During the previous 5 years, he/she violated the prohibition of illegal work or illegal employment pursuant to on illegal work and illegal employment and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended,
- Is in bankruptcy proceedings or in liquidation, i.e. a petition for the initiation of bankruptcy proceedings has been filed against this person or bankruptcy has been declared (even if the petition for the declaration of bankruptcy has been rejected or the bankruptcy has been cancelled due to the lack of assets of this person), or the assets of this person are the subject of a voluntary auction or execution proceedings are being conducted or restructuring proceedings have been initiated against this person or restructuring has been permitted, or proceedings are underway to liquidate a legal person, or it is a person who is in any analogous situation to these situations,
- Is not authorized to carry out activities in the subject matter of the purpose for which it is requesting support and is not registered as a legal entity in the legally designated register and any permits required to carry out its activities have not been issued or their effects do not last,
- Has in relation to the foundation or in relation to the National Bank of Slovakia or other entities outstanding financial liabilities within the founding jurisdiction of the NBS,
- Is a founder of a foundation or a member of its board of directors, a foundation administrator, a member of another body of the foundation or a person close to them.
