The Latvian Literature is delighted to invite applications for its program titled “Support for Foreign Publishers Publishing Latvian Literature” to ensure that the best of Latvian prose, poetry, drama, journalism and children’s literature is accessible and known beyond the borders of Latvia.
The program provides financial support to foreign publishers who are publishing Latvian literature, thereby promoting the interest of foreign publishers in Latvian literature and its translations into different languages.
Funding Information
- Grant applicants can apply for up to 3000 EUR financial support to cover book production costs.
Eligible Costs
- Eligible costs within the framework of this program are:
- Fee for the authors’ rights/license;
- Text editing costs, including payment for the editor and copy-editor;
- Layout and book design costs;
- Printing costs.
Ineligible Costs
- The grant program does not cover payments to a book project coordinator or other administrative costs.
- In-house costs are not eligible in the framework of this grant program.
- The grant program does not cover costs that has been already covered by any other source of public funds so far e.g. The State Culture Capital Foundation, The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, and others.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any foreign publisher who is a legal entity and has experience working with foreign authors is eligible to take part in the grant program.
Evaluation Criteria
- Translation language, its distribution area, and the number of users.
- The applicant’s activities and reputation.
- Planned marketing activities.
- Accuracy of Project budget, compliance with the market situation, etc.
- Literary work selected for translation.
- Cultural context.
- Quality of translation (if necessary).
- Copyrights contract or contract with the author.
Application Requirements
- A completed application form;
- Edited excerpt of the translation together with an appropriate fragment of the original text (for poetry from 50 to 200 lines, and prose approximately 10 000 characters with spaces);
- A resume of the translator (CV);
- A resume of the editor (CV);
- Information on the copyright of the book to be published — a copy of the publisher’s agreement with the copyright holder;
- A copy of the contract with the translator;
- The Project budget in euros with the specified co-financing amount (in case there is co-financing) and the total cost, as well as information on additional financing (in the case there is additional financing).
- The inclusion of the publisher’s catalogue or list of books it has published over the last 2 years (or a website link that shows this information) is encouraged.
