The Kids Managing Conflict (KMC) calls for applications for its grant program to support and promote peer mediation programs in K-12 schools that teach students conflict management skills and enrich their lives into adulthood.
Kids Managing Conflict has been finding ways to bring dispute resolution tools to students since 2007, and will continue to support youth that want to resolve conflicts peacefully. In just the last 10 years, KMC has been able to provide 41 California schools with $115,000 in grants.
Goals and Objectives
- KMC will fund school programs:
- To train students in peer mediation. (in-person/virtual)
- To increase respect for others through processes of communication and other peer mediation techniques.
- To mediate disagreements among students to an agreeable resolution.
- To improve student’s self-awareness and self-regulation through communication.
- To enrich student’s lives through mediation practices as they move toward adulthood.
- KMC will:
- Provide school grant funds to schools that best meet the goals of KMC.
- Provide resources to assist in training students through the KMC online private community dedicated to students, teachers, and administrators.
- Appoint a KMC Board member as a consultant to assist with questions and resources.
Funding Information
- Grant awards may be up to $3,000 per school
- Applicant project and funding needs must be consistent with KMC’s mission and the above mentioned current funding cycle focus.
- Grant implementation period is during the 2024-2025 School Year.
Eligibility Criteria
- KMC grants are awarded to schools, and KMC will only accept applications directly from educational institutions.
- KMC’s 2024-2025 Grant Funding cycle will focus on starting or advancing peer mediation programs primarily for grades 4-12.
- School sites wishing to establish new peer mediation programs are encouraged to apply.
- KMC will fund only well-qualified and clearly defined proposals for programs, which may represent only a fraction of the grant amount requested.
- Successful grant recipients must agree to participate in surveys throughout the school year.
- KMC does not fund the purchase, creation, or distribution of materials that lobby for legislation or to influence public elections.
