The Gulf University for Science and Technology is requesting applications for its Global Studies Centre Travel Grant to support significant Social Sciences and Humanities research in Kuwait for Ph.D candidates and to foster relationships between international Ph.D candidates and GSC faculty.
Proposed travel and research funded by the grant must be completed within the academic year for which the grant is awarded. 4 weeks of the recipient’s travel stay in Kuwait must be completed between October 1 and May 15 (the main GUST academic year).
Funding Information
- One grant of 1000KWD will be awarded per academic year for a travel stay in Kuwait of a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks.
Costs Covered
- Funding from this grant may be used for travel to and from Kuwait, accommodation in Kuwait, and personal and research expenses while in Kuwait.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants are required to be a full time enrolled Ph.D candidate at a university outside of Kuwait.
- Applicants must demonstrate the ability to complete the proposed research within 6-12 weeks.
Selection Criteria
- The grant applications will be considered and evaluated by a committee of GUST Global Studies Centre members on the basis of:
- The originality of the research.
- The methodological considerations as outlined in the research proposal.
- The feasibility of the research project as outlined in the research proposal.
- The expected outcomes/research outputs as outlined in the research proposal.
- The willingness of the applicant to collaborate and participate in the activities of the Global Studies Centre.
- Final selection of the recipient of the GUST Global Studies Centre Travel Grant for Research in Kuwait must be approved by the Chair of the Global Studies Centre, the Director of Graduate Studies and Research and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

- Detailed research proposal that includes the research question, methodology, timeline of proposed research, expected research output and outcomes and budget for your stay (can be combined with other grants/funds) (no more than 5 pages).
- A confidential letter of support from their Ph.D supervisor explaining where the candidate is in terms of completing their Ph.D and their confidence in the applicant’s ability to complete the research project (to be sent separately).
- A confidential letter of support from a GSC faculty who will supervise and work with the applicant during their stay at GUST and Kuwait (to be sent separately).
