Greece – Grants for Books, Letters, Book Reading

Deadline: 12 February 2024

The Ministry of Culture (MOC) is seeking applications from Private or Public non-profit legal entities for grant and/or sponsorship for books, letters, book reading.

Books, through the experience of reading, apart from the pursuit of pleasure and entertainment, enable the reader to delve deeper, searching in the texts for the meaning, truths and purposes of life. Books help the reader to clarify his feelings, change his way of thinking and his philosophy of life. The meaning a book gives to a reader’s life is personal and unique to each person.

Objectives of the Ministry of Health in the context of this call

  • The support and development of contemporary artistic creation and production
  • The highlighting of new and original/innovative ideas of artistic expression and cultural action
  • The support of the work of young artists and the strengthening of new artistic currents
  • The development of the public and the diffusion of cultural goods among citizens
  • The strengthening of cross-sectoral/cross-artistic actions of Contemporary Culture and the encouragement of creative synergies in Greece and internationally
  • The strengthening of the cultural and creative economy as a pillar of social and economic development and the creation of new jobs
  • The development of actions in the Region with the aim of supporting and exploiting the human potential of each region and contributing to the economic revitalization of local societies
  • The promotion of equality in access, participation and familiarization with contemporary cultural development, with an emphasis on young people, susceptible and vulnerable social groups, as well as special audiences
  • Strengthening social cohesion and contributing to the acceptance of diversity
  • Strengthening knowledge for an even more sustainable environment, through responsible social actions
  • The promotion of digital transformation and digital innovation in the field of culture
  • Strengthening the prestige and reputation of Greek contemporary artistic creation abroad and highlighting Greece as a strong and recognizable pole of development of Contemporary Culture

Funding Information

  • Proposals exceeding 20,000 euros must be accompanied from budget report signed and sealed by active accountant/tax preparer (e.g. from the AADE Registry) in order to be done accepted for evaluation.
  • The actions to be subsidized must be implemented within the current year or at least start their implementation within the year.

Which proposals can be funded under this call?

  • In the context of this call, proposals are evaluated for:
    • Display, dissemination and promotion of Greek letters and books,
    • Support of scientific meetings (symposiums, conferences, two-day conferences, seminars)
    • Support for reading-friendly actions
    • Developing a readership in particular population groups, such as the visually impaired, the elderly, refugees and immigrants, young people and children
    • Support of literary contests (e.g. literary contests of young writers, students, visually impaired, elderly, etc.)
    • Strengthening actions and scientific meetings in the context of literary tourism
    • Strengthening actions to create digital tools in the field of books (applications, databases)
    • Digitization of archives of literary interest and books, which will be accessible and open to the general public

Which proposals are outside the scope of this call?

  • Proposals submitted by those supervised and regularly subsidized by the Ministry of Health. carriers
  • Grant proposals to cover operational costs, equipment and building infrastructure
  • Proposals that do not relate to the subject of modern culture (e.g. folk art and tradition, etc.)
  • Proposals that did not receive a grant in the context of previous invitations from the Ministry of Health.
  • Proposals which themselves or their drafts have already been presented to the public by the body

Eligibility Criteria

  • Legal Entities of Private or Public Law of a non-profit nature, with cultural and/or public benefit purposes that have been established by 31/10/2023.
  • In the case of cooperation between bodies, the proposal is submitted by the main body implementing the action and a cooperation agreement signed by the cooperating parties is submitted. If a foreign body participates, the proposal is submitted by the Greek body.
  • Each body in the framework of the ‘Creative Greece – Contemporary Culture 2024’ program can submit only one proposal.

Evaluation Criteria

  • General Criteria:
    • The relevance of the proposal to the priorities of the Ministry of Health.
    • The coherence of the proposal with the theme of the Invitation, its content and its artistic excellence
    • Adequate proposal development, comprehensive and documented planning and realistic time planning
    • Realistic budgeting and adequate documentation and analysis of financial data
    • Cooperation with professionals in the field during the planning and implementation of the proposal
    • The overall cultural and artistic activity of the organization/group in the field of modern culture, the culture of collaborations it has developed and its participation in important events in Greece and abroad (e.g. festivals, programs, collaborations, etc.)
    • Securing any other sources of funding for the implementation of the proposal (private, national, European sources/programs, alternative forms of funding, etc.)
  • Special evaluation criteria for proposals in the area of ​​books, letters and reading:
    • The use of innovative applications and programs
    • The strengthening of new writers, translators, creators through their support and the promotion of their work
    • The wider interaction and the possibility of interacting with the public through actions, events, competitions, seminars, etc.
