The Universal Service Fund, a division of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), has announced the opening of applications for the 2025–2026 USF Grants under the Local Digital Content Development Initiative (Phase 3).
This call is directed towards Malawian digital content creators and producers based within the country who seek support to develop engaging content that promotes Malawi as a nation and highlights its development journey. The grant package offers exceptional opportunities for each successful applicant to enhance their technical skills and establish a sustainable business venture.
The initiative principally aims to enhance the availability of high-quality local digital content for television, thereby increasing viewership while encouraging creativity, competition, and storytelling that authentically reflects Malawi’s identity. In this third phase, the grant focuses on content initiatives that:
- Spotlight Malawian cultural, social, or economic progress, including grassroots achievements and community-driven solutions.
- Highlight impactful development projects across various sectors.
- Align with and creatively represent Malawi’s current development cycle and national priorities.
Eligibility Criteria
- The USF hereby invites submissions from qualified Malawian digital content creators and producers who possess well-developed content concepts that are ready for production.
- All applications received will be subjected to a comprehensive review process conducted by an independent evaluation committee, which will subsequently shortlist candidates accordingly.
Evaluation Criteria
- Each application will undergo a rigorous assessment by the independent evaluation committee, which will select the top applicants, whether individuals or teams, to participate in the project.
- The evaluation criteria will include the availability of content scripts, creativity, potential for character development and audience engagement, technical feasibility, social impact, and the scalability and sustainability of the business project.
