Grants Assistance to boost Energy Efficiency of Women with Economic Activities in Agriculture (Moldova)

Women with economic activities in agriculture from 16 districts can obtain assistance in enhancing energy efficiency and implementing renewable energy solutions by participating in a call for proposals.

The support, totaling approximately $650,000, provided as equipment and/or services, complements the efforts to strengthen women’s capacities in sustainable agricultural practices and integrated energy efficiency. In March-April 2024, 10 informational sessions are organized for 350 people in 16 districts, covering topics like: energy efficiency measures, environmentally friendly activities, and their application in agriculture.

The purpose of this Program is to provide complex assistance (support in the form of procurement of supplies and services, capacity building, mentoring and guidance) to women practicing agricultural economic activity at the household level, in order to increase energy resilience and ensure the transition towards an energy green by granting non-refundable financial assistance for the co-financing of a total of at least 50 projects aimed at one of the following objectives:

  • Development of energy-efficient and climate-smart agricultural activities led by women farmers and micro agricultural producers with activity at the household level;
  • Contributing to the reduction of vulnerability in the agricultural sector by capitalizing on energy sources renewable energy and/or the implementation of energy efficiency measures.

The competition is managed by the company Civitta International OU in partnership with CIVITTA M SRL and the Public Association Centru European “Pro-Europe”, based on the partnership contract concluded with UNDP Moldova within the projects “Emergency support for agricultural producers in the context of the socio-economic crisis, climate and energy’ and ‘Multidimensional response to emerging human security challenges’.

Funding Value

  • Funding from the Government of Japan: Up to US$5,000
  • Funding from Switzerland: Up to US$6,000

Eligible Activities

  • Installation of solar collectors for the preparation of domestic hot water;
  • Installation of photovoltaic solar panels;
  • Installation of technologies for biogas production;
  • Installation of heat pumps;
  • Installation of boilers based on burning solid biomass (wood, pellets, lighters) for heating;
  • Implementation of energy efficiency measures in warehouses, rooms used in the economic activity of women agricultural producers micro – peasant household, individual enterprise or SRL;
  • Energy efficient equipment (eg high energy class refrigerators);

Target Group: women and micro agricultural producers, who practice agricultural economic activity at household level.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligibility criteria for women who practice agricultural economic activity at household level:
    • For applicants to the project competition funded by the Government of Japan:
      • Woman practicing agricultural economic activity at household level or micro agricultural producer – legal entity with peasant household status, individual enterprise or SRL led by woman – practicing agricultural activity at household level.
      • The applicant is located with agricultural activity in one of the target districts of the Project (Telenești, Ungheni, Șoldănești, Hâncești, Sângerei, Briceni, Orhei, Strășeni, Criuleni, Dubăsari, Florești, Rezina, Cantemir, Căușeni, Cahul, Taraclia).
      • The presented project falls within the eligible fields of activity according to the Application Guide.
      • If the farmer is registered as a micro agricultural producer with a legal form – peasant household, individual enterprise or SRL – to meet the condition that the applicant company has no arrears to the public budget.
      • The applicant confirms the availability to contribute with a financial contribution for the implementation of the project financed with the support offered by UNDP Moldova through its projects.
      • The applicant’s agreement regarding the dissemination of the results of the project implemented with the support provided by UNDP Moldova through its projects.
    • For applicants to the competition for projects financed by Switzerland:
      • Woman practicing agricultural economic activity at the household level, who is registered or will be registered during the implementation of the project. Legal forms: peasant household (GȚ), individual enterprise (ÎI), limited liability company (SRL).
      • The applicant is located with agricultural activity in one of the target districts of the Project (Telenești, Ungheni, Șoldănești, Hâncești, Sângerei, Briceni, Orhei, Strășeni, Criuleni, Dubăsari, Florești, Rezina, Cantemir, Căușeni, Cahul, Taraclia).
      • If the farmer is registered as a micro agricultural producer with a legal form – peasant household, individual enterprise or SRL – to meet the condition that the applicant company has no arrears to the public budget.
      • The applicant confirms the availability to contribute with a financial contribution for the implementation of the project financed with the support offered by UNDP Moldova through its projects.
      • The applicant’s agreement regarding the dissemination of the results of the project implemented with the support provided by UNDP Moldova through its projects.
  • Eligibility criteria for women who practice agricultural economic activity outside the household:
    • Project proposals that meet the following eligibility criteria will be admitted to the competition:
      • Farmer or small or medium-sized agricultural producer, practicing agricultural activity outside the household (legal entity with the status of a peasant household, individual enterprise, SRL or association, cooperative) whose founder is a woman.
      • The applicant is located with agricultural activity in one of the target districts of the Project (Telenești, Ungheni, Șoldănești, Hâncești, Sângerei, Briceni, Orhei, Strășeni, Criuleni, Dubăsari, Florești, Rezina, Cantemir, Căușeni, Cahul, Taraclia).
      • The presented project falls within the eligible fields of activity according to the Application Guide.
      • The small or medium-sized agricultural producer – legal entity with the status of a peasant household, sole proprietorship, SRL, cooperative managed by the applicant, keeps accounting records and presents financial reports in accordance with the legislation in force and has no arrears to the public budget.
      • The applicant confirms the availability to contribute with a financial contribution for the implementation of the project financed with the support offered by UNDP Moldova through its projects.
      • The applicant’s agreement regarding the dissemination of the results of the project implemented with the support provided by UNDP Moldova through its projects.
