Applications are now open for Comic Creation Grants to stimulate and finance the literary creation of original works in the comic format, understood as sequential art, written in any of the languages official Spanish authorities, as well as those with legal recognition in the statutes of autonomy.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount of the grants awarded will be €1,000,000.00.
- A total of 40 grants of €25,000 will be awarded for each selected work. In the case of co-authorship, the amount will be divided according to the percentages established for each author.
Ineligible Projects
- Each applicant for this grant may only be the author or co-author of one project. If more than one project is submitted, even as a co-author, only the one that was first submitted to the processing unit will be accepted. Participation as an author or co-author in these grants will also be grounds for exclusion from grants for literary creation.
- In the event that the work is submitted to another competition, prize or call for grants, and obtains the prize or endowment in question, the authors undertake to withdraw from this call, before the award resolution, by submitting the documentation.
- If there is a pre-agreement with a publisher for the publication of the work, it may not be published until the date of publication of the Resolution granting these grants.
- Works that have already been published in paper or any other medium, or those that have been published, partially or totally, in blogs, on any social network, webcomic or webtoons, may not be submitted.
- Works created using generative artificial intelligence may not be submitted. The Subdirectorate General for the Promotion of Books, Reading, and Spanish Literature may verify whether the sample was created using generative artificial intelligence using whatever tools it deems necessary.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individuals of legal age, with Spanish nationality, or residing in Spain may apply for assistance; they must have at least one previously published work that is not self-published.
- It is not necessary to be self-employed or registered as a professional to qualify for the Aid.
- Co-authored works may be submitted by a maximum of six authors. All authors must meet all the requirements established in the call for proposals and submit the required documentation.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Legal entities, joint property associations, groups of public or private legal entities, as well as other entities without legal personality are expressly excluded from this call.
- Persons submitting for the grant a work already published in paperback or any other medium, or works that have been published, in part or in full: on blogs, on any social network, webcomic, webtoons.
- Persons applying for the grant with projects that have already obtained any other grant.
- Subsidy, public or private, or award for such projects.
- People who have any of the following conditions will not be able to obtain beneficiary status: of the prohibitions or incompatibilities provided for the Article 13 of Law 38/2003, of November 17. General Subsidies, nor have pending payment of obligations for reimbursement of subsidies in the terms established in article 21 of the Regulations of the aforementioned law, approved by Royal Decree 887/2006, of July 21.
- Any of the authors who benefit from the grants from the call for subsidies for literary creation corresponding to the year 2024.
- All personnel who provide their services are excluded from this call.
- Professionals at the Ministry of Culture.
- Works created using generative artificial intelligence.
- Authors who apply for grants for literary creation in 2025.
