The Cork County Council’s Irish-based Arts Grant Scheme is inviting proposals from individual artists, professional arts organizations, festivals and voluntary arts groups for events, projects or arts activities based in Irish.
The aim of this funding is to support the creation of a new work or to promote an event, project or arts activity based on the Irish language.
Objective
- Their main objective is to promote language-based arts activity through Irish and may include methods such as: theater and drama, storytelling, puppetry, recitation, singing, opera, animation, street arts, film and take literature into account. Art forms/projects that are not based on language may not be considered under this funding strand.
Purpose
- The purpose of this funding is to:
- Support the establishment of new arts events, projects or activities, and to support existing ones, and to promote them as independent events or as part of the annual program of a professional arts organization, festival or voluntary arts group, or from solo artist.
- Encouraging higher levels of creative participation in the arts from artists and members of the public through the medium of Irish
- Developing new audiences and nurturing existing audiences for the arts through the Irish language, by creating works of art and/or new methods of participation for the public and targeted communities to enjoy a cultural experience through medium of Irish.
- It helps Cork County Council provide its cultural services in a more equitable way by providing new arts activities, targeting specific community groups, or by increasing access to Irish-based arts activities, both in person and online.
- To enable artists and arts organizations and voluntary arts groups to work together with communities to develop new productions, activities and events using the Irish language.
Funding Information
- This scheme receives funding from the Irish Office of Cork County Council:
- In cases where existing productions based on Irish are proposed, no more than 50% of the total cost of the production will be eligible, subject to an overall limit of €1,000 for any one project.
- Where a group or company may propose the development of a new production or event, an application may be made seeking up to 60% of the costs of the proposal, up to a maximum of €1,500.
Eligibility Criteria
- Festival Organizers.
- Amateur Theater Groups.
- Individual professional artists working in all Irish-based art forms.
- Groups promoting the Irish language who have not previously participated in the arts, who have a proposal to create or promote specific Irish-based arts events, projects or activities.
Assessment Criteria
- The following assessment criteria will be included:
- Possible funding for the project to encourage public participation in the arts through the medium of Irish
- The value of the proposed project to promote the language positively
- The imagination and innovation of the proposed project.
