The Ottawa Arts Council in collaboration with Pieces of Us, which works to create intimate creative experiences featuring Canada’s incredibly diverse artists, the Share Your Piece Micro-Grant supports IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour) artists by helping to bring their art to life.
The funds provide recipients with a method to create, bolster, and commercialize their art. It encourages works that are novel and have a high impact on the community.
Funding Information
- The applicable amount to request for the Share Your Piece Micro-Grant is in amounts of $500 to $1,000. Projects and initiatives must be led by individuals identifying as part of the Ottawa-Gatineau region’s IBPOC community with an active practice in Ottawa.
What can grant funds be used for?
- Typical costs for community involvement and/or artistic projects occurring in 2023. This can include costs such as:
- Rehearsal, creation, development or performance studio rentals
- Supplies/materials to be used for a community event or the creation of artistic work
- Professional development (ie. conferences, workshops, symposiums, mentorships)
- Production or technical fees related to an artistic work/performances/events that will be publicly accessible
- Fees for artists and honoraria for experts/guests
What can grant funds not be used for?
- Ongoing operating expenses
- Debts
- Expenses that have already been spent
- Projects with high ticket prices
- Profit-generating projects
- Capital expenses such as new construction or the purchase of major equipment
- Activities that do not comply with City of Ottawa regulations or by-laws
Who can apply?
- Ottawa-Gatineau region’s IBPOC Community, however, an active practice in Ottawa is required.
- IBPOC artists and organizers of all disciplines regardless of religious background, differing abilities, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or economic status.
- IBPOC Collectives (groups of 2 or more working together).
- IBPOC Grassroots and neighbourhood groups.
- Informal IBPOC groups.
- IBPOC Groups incorporated not-for-profit with 1 Full Time Employee or less.
- Individuals and groups must include at least one individual who is 18 years or older. Youth 16 years and older are eligible for Share Your Piece Micro-Grant funding.
