The L’Oréal-UNESCO calls for applications for its 18th FWIS (For Women in Science) Maghreb Programme to support the involvement of young women in scientific research.
The L’Oréal-UNESCO Young Maghreb Talents for Women in Science program aims to promote and support the involvement of young women in scientific research. This program identifies and rewards talented young Moroccan, Tunisian, Algerian and Libyan researchers in the life and environmental sciences, material sciences, mathematics, computer science and information sciences. engineering and technological sciences.
For this 18th edition, 5 grants will be awarded to encourage young researchers. currently in doctorate or post-doctoral position to pursue a brilliant scientific career.
Funding Information
- The awarded doctoral students will each receive an endowment of €10,000. Doctoral candidates must be registered in a doctoral school and in a research laboratory in their country, have started their doctorate no later than December 2022 (i.e. at least, be registered in the 2nd year of their thesis) and not have yet supported the opening date of the call for applications, in May 2024.
- The awarded postdoctoral researchers will each receive an endowment of €10,000. Post-doctoral candidates must work in a laboratory or research institute in their country, have defended their thesis after January 2019 and started their post-doctorate before the date of the opening of the call for applications, in May 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
- For doctoral students
- The endowment for doctoral students aims to reward candidates:
- Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian, or Libyan nationals enrolled in a doctoral school in their country and completing their doctorate in a research laboratory in their country.
- Having started their thesis no later than December 2022 (being at least in the 2nd year of the thesis).
- Continuing research in one of the scientific fields.
- To note:
- Doctoral students who defend their thesis during the call for applications (from May to July 2024) must apply in the “post-doctoral” category and propose a new specific research project different from that of the thesis project.
- Candidates who have already been supported by one of the national or regional L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Young Talent programs are not eligible.

- The endowment for post-doctoral researchers aims to reward candidates:
- Of Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian and Libyan nationality carrying out their post-doctorate in a research laboratory in their country.
- Having started their post-doctorate before the date of the opening of the call for applications, in May 2024 or having a letter from the host laboratory attesting to the start of the post-doctorate no later than the end date of the call for applications.
