The Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes Mechanisms Grant Opportunity provides researchers with funding to support projects that investigate the common pathophysiological mechanisms and pathways of disease or disease-related complications, focused on cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
This grant opportunity is part of the Medical Research Future Fund Preventative and Public Health Research Initiative.
Consistent with the Targeted Translation Research Plan, it will support Australian medical research and medical innovation projects that conduct small scale developmental projects that investigate the common pathophysiological mechanisms and pathways of disease or disease-related complications, focused on patients at higher risk of poor outcomes with:
- Topic A: any type of diabetes, including atypical or mixed phenotypes
- Topic B: cardiovascular disease and type 1 diabetes
- Topic C: cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
Applicants can apply for more than one topic with different applications, but can only submit one application per topic.
The intended outcome of the research funded by this grant opportunity is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by generating knowledge to support new diagnostics, devices and therapies for people living with cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Funding Information
- For this grant opportunity, up to $12 million is available in 2023-24 as follows:
- Topic A (Aim 1, Objective #1 of Research Plan; Incubator): $4.0 million
- Topic B (Aim 1, Objective #1 of Research Plan; Incubator): $4.0 million
- Topic C (Aim 1, Objective #1 of Research Plan; Incubator): $4.0 million.
- Grants available
- The grant amount will be up to 100 per cent of eligible project costs (grant percentage).
- The minimum amount available for a single grant is $0.25 million
- The maximum amount available for a single grant is $1.0 million.
- Project period
- The projects must be completed within 2 years of timeframe.
Who is this for?
- Eligible organisations seeking to generate knowledge to support new diagnostics, devices and therapies for people living with cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible you must:
- have an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- be incorporated in Australia
- and in accordance with s24 of the MRFF Act 20152, be one of the following entities:
- a medical research institute
- a university
- a corporate Commonwealth entity
- a corporation (including businesses and not for profits).
- Joint applications are encouraged, provided you have a lead organisation who is the main driver of the project and is eligible to apply. They cannot waive the eligibility criteria under any circumstances.
- Who is not eligible?
- You are not eligible to apply if you are:
- an individual
- partnership
- unincorporated association
- trust (however, an incorporated trustee may apply on behalf of a trust)
- a non-corporate Commonwealth entity
- an organisation, or your project partner is an organisation.
- an employer of 100 or more employees that has not complied with Workplace Gender Equality Act (2012).
