The Kildare County Council invites applications from owners of thatch properties that need financial assistance with thatch roof repairs or rethatching costs.
Kildare County Council operates a Thatching Grant Scheme to assist the owners/occupiers of thatch properties in the county to maintain their thatch roofs. Grants are awarded annually and work must be completed within the year. Applications for retrospective works (works completed prior to application) will not be considered.
Assessment Criteria
- The Council may have regard to the following when assessing applications:
- Necessity of proposed works.
- Quality of works and materials to be used (straw must be replaced with straw).
- Funding awarded from other sources.
- Status on the Record of Protected Structures/NIAH.
Application Requirements
- Your application form should be accompanied by the following:
- A detailed estimate of the cost of the proposed works.
- A map or sketch drawing showing the exact location of the dwelling.
- Photographs of house & roof current condition.
- Planning permission register number and Record of Protected Structures /NIAH Reference number where applicable.
