Applications are now open for the grants supporting projects for the establishment and management of newly created, protected and strictly protected areas in Austria.
Objectives
- Designation of new or extension of existing areas with strict protection (IUCN: I+II) or protection (IUCN: III+IV): national parks, wilderness areas, Natura 2000 areas and nature reserves.
- Designation of new or expansion of existing areas with low protection (IUCN: V+VI), provided that in addition to biodiversity protection, long-term biodiversity conservation is also demonstrably guaranteed:
biosphere reserves, landscape conservation areas, nature parks and protected landscape areas. - Upgrading of existing protected areas if a biodiversity-promoting protection purpose is ensured that did not previously exist (e.g. establishment of a nature reserve on a Natura 2000 area).
Funding Information
- A total of 27 million euros in funding is available within the framework.
The duration of the projects from the time of submission is specified in the funding agreement; all projects must be implemented and subsequently invoiced by 31.12.2025 - For local authorities (federal, state, municipal) as well as administrations of biosphere, nature and national parks in Austria, a funding rate of up to 100% of the eligible costs applies.
Eligibility Criteria
- Local authorities (federal, state, municipal) as well as legal entities of biosphere, nature and national parks in Austria are eligible to apply and receive funding.
