The Emergency Medicine Foundation is seeking proposals for its Pilot Research Grant to lay the groundwork for a project that will eventually meaningfully impact emergency care research and is intended for a broad audience, including both clinical, translational and basic science researchers.
Research Topics
- This grant is intended to provide “starter” or pilot funding for preliminary data to help initiate a successful line of research that will ultimately lead to a larger project and result in a subsequent K of R grant funding. Description of how the proposed pilot could lead to further work is highly encouraged. Feasibility and high risk/high reward applications are encouraged. EMF encourages application partnerships between research universities and community emergency departments along with the engagement of operational and policy partners. All applications must identify and justify the primary EMF priority to which they are focusing their proposal. EMF priorities include:

Funding Information
- Funding amount per award: up to $100,000
- Number of awards: up to three
- Duration: July 2025 – June 2026
Eligibility Criteria
- The principal investigator must have a primary faculty appointment in Emergency Medicine (this includes Pediatric Emergency Medicine). The principal investigator will make all arrangements for conduct of the proposed research projects and assumes responsibility for conducting the research projects and supervising the work of all associate investigators and project team members.
Evaluation Criteria
- Each application will be reviewed by research scientists who are actively involved in emergency medicine research. Each application will be judged primarily on:
- the significance of the project to emergency medicine, the research strategy, feasibility and innovation.
- the final funding decision will be made by the Emergency Medicine Foundation Board of Trustees and all decisions are final. Applications not funded can be resubmitted the following cycle with a response to prior reviewer comments.

- Do not submit an incomplete application. An application will be considered incomplete if it is illegible, if it fails to follow instructions, or if the material presented is insufficient to permit an adequate review.
