The Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo is seeking applications for its FAPESP-NRF: Joint Call for Proposals – Seedcorn Funding Program.
The CORE Program aims to facilitate the development of sustainable institutional linkages between the two countries and generate innovative approaches, solutions and outcomes for society at large that would not otherwise be possible.
The CORE Program offers two types of Research Grants, implemented with a co-funding model between NRF and FAPESP. This opportunity is particularly targeted at emerging researchers.
Objectives
- The general objectives of the Program are:
- Contribute to scientific advancement in both countries by financing joint research projects in specific areas;
- Contribute significantly to the development of research capabilities;
- Build and connect knowledge to increase the scientific and social impact of research;
- Explore new development trajectories; and
- Finding new ways to accelerate transitions towards sustainable development.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount to be requested from FAPESP is R$400,000.00.
- Projects in the Regular Research Grant – Seedcorn Fund may have a maximum duration of up to 24 months (2 years), starting in 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
- Each proposal under the CORE Program must have a Principal Investigator based in South Africa and a Principal Investigator based in the state of São Paulo.
- They have primary responsibility for the project, including its technical and administrative coordination, as well as the timely delivery of scientific and financial reports.
Evaluation Criteria
- Proposals submitted under this Call will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Alignment with the national priorities of each country;
- Feasibility and practicality of exchange programs and the general work plan;
- Qualification of research teams;
- Feasibility of continuing the partnership beyond the 2-year financing period of this Grant;
- South African side only : Proposals that reflect principles of social inclusion and are aligned with South Africa’s transformation agenda will be considered favourably.
Application Requirements
- Research projects must be written in English;
- Projects must start in 2025 and have a maximum duration of up to 24 months (2 years);
- Each PR may submit only one proposal to one of the two opportunities within the CORE Program launched in partnership with the NRF, under penalty of exclusion. The second opportunity, which also includes established researchers;
- Additional partners based in South Africa and/or the state of São Paulo (or other Brazilian states) may also participate in joint projects. Applicants may collaborate with other partners, such as NGOs or companies, but may not allocate financial resources to them;
- Researchers selected in the ISS Call in partnership with NRF are eligible for this opportunity.
