The IRIBA Center, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Rwanda, is excited to announce the launch of a call for projects for the Weekend Culturel DÉCOLONIAL, 2024 (6th edition) for the artists.
This annual programme, which takes place in October, aligns with World Audiovisual Heritage Day designated by UNESCO.
Artists based in Rwanda are invited to submit project proposals for the Weekend Culturel DÉCOLONIAL. They seek proposals with a clear vision, feasibility, and potential impact.
They are particularly looking for projects focusing on group dynamics (co-creation among artists), transmission (for all ages), safeguarding endangered art forms (e.g., singing, dancing, performing arts, traditional craftsmanship, aesthetic basketry) and promoting inclusivity (supporting talented artists lacking access to project calls due to language barriers).
The call encompasses four project categories that allows artists to choose one of the categories:
- Projects focusing on group dynamics (co-creation among artists)
- Transmission (for all ages)
- Safeguarding endangered art forms (e.g., singing, dancing, performing arts, traditional craftsmanship, aesthetic basketry)
- Promoting inclusivity (supporting talented artists lacking access to project calls due to language barriers)
Categories
- Artistic co-creation project:
- Lead an artistic co-creation initiative
- Collaborate with 2-3 artists of your choice who lack proficiency in foreign languages
- Showcase collective creativity through diverse perspectives and talents
- Empower artists by facilitating communication and ensuring their ideas are heard and understood
- Create an inclusive environment where language barriers are overcome, allowing artists to express themselves freely
- Initiation and training project:
- As the Mentor, select a group of young individuals from rural areas, to help them cultivate their artistic skills and creativity
- Empower aspiring artists who face barriers to accessing project opportunities
- Provide guidance and support to foster artistic development in underserved communities
- Create a platform for talent from rural areas to thrive and showcase their creativity
- Bridge the gap between urban and rural artistic communities by offering mentorship and resources
- Intergenerational transmission and co-creation projects:
- Partner with one or two experienced artists of your choice to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills across generation.
- Preserve traditional art forms while nurturing new talent
- Bridge the generation gap in the arts community
- Provide mentorship opportunities for emerging artists
- Create a platform for sharing techniques, experiences, and artistic insights
- Individual artistic creation projects:
- This category is open to individual artists seeking to showcase their innovative ideas
- Present either a new artistic endeavor or a significant milestone in an existing project
What you will get?
- Collaborative projects: Financial support up to 1,500,000 RWF
- Individual projects or milestones: Financial support up to 750,000 RWF
- 80% of funds allocated upfront, 20% upon completion
- Skill-building workshops and exchanges with experienced artists
- Access to rehearsal space
Who can apply?
- Rwandan artists and artists from the Great Lakes region living in Rwanda.

- The production of project must be presented during the WCD, 2024
Languages
- Proposals can be submitted in English, French, or Kinyarwanda.
