Call for Projects: Cultural, Creative and Digital Sectors’ initiatives in Egypt

This proposal contributes to the development of innovative projects and contributes to the reinforcement of professional skills in the cultural and creative industries sector. The French Institute of Egypt is the cultural operator of French and Francophone culture in Egypt: through its programming and its cooperation programme, it participates in numerous projects, exchanges and cooperation throughout Egypt. For 2024, France reiterates its commitment to support the Egyptian cultural and artistic scene.

The projects selected in the framework of this unique open call will benefit from funding and support from the French Institute of Egypt, with the aim of developing structuring partnerships with cultural operators. All artistic disciplines are concerned: performing arts, music, visual arts, photography, circus arts, comics, digital creation, gastronomy, fashion, design, architecture, video games and the debate of ideas.

Funding Information

• This call for projects to support the Egyptian cultural scene is dedicated to projects implemented from March 2024 to the end of the year 2024, tackling to go beyond mere event and production support. Support may take the following forms:
• A direct financial contribution to the project or in co-construction. The grant awarded may not exceed 50% of the total project budget and will generally represent an amount of maximum 7000 euros. The grant will be paid in EGP equivalent at the chancellery rate of the day of payment.
• An indirect contribution, including the use of IFE’s space in Cairo and/or Alexandria, communication and visibility support and other good practice exchanges Insertion in existing programs carried out directly by the French operators of the Ministry of Culture of the French Republic and the Institut français Paris.

Who can apply?

• Any cultural structure.

Selection Criteria

• The elements of evaluation of the projects will be the following:
  • The relevance and quality of the project of creation and/or dissemination of works in the Franco- Egyptian artistic dialogue;
  • The co-construction of the project with French artists and/or cultural operators;
  • The contribution to the economic strengthening of the creative and cultural sectors and to professional networking.
• Projects that explicitly and structurally take into account:
  • Gender equality;
  • The promotion of the French language and/or the French language;
  • The ecological transformation of the cultural sector.
• The project must be carried out by a cultural entity between March 2024 and the end of the year 2024. Structures that have received a previous grant from France must have previously submitted a financial and activity report on the grant for the previous operation. First-time applicants” are accepted. Some of the selected projects will directly benefit the cultural scene of the city of Alexandria and particular attention will be paid to projects that integrate other territories than Cairo: they encourage plural artistic performances taking place in different governorates of Egypt.
