Areas of Interest
- Transitional justice issue areas include, but are not limited to:
- Accountability and Responsibility: Issues Related to the Prosecution of Those Responsible for War Crimes and Human Rights Violations
- Victims’ Rights and Reparations: Issues relating to victims, their demands for compensation, and official recognition of their suffering
- Mass Graves and the Missing: Investigating the Fate of the Forcibly Disappeared and Exposing Mass Graves
- Reconstruction: Investigating how financial, engineering and/or political reconstruction projects are implemented, tenders and the role of states supporting the new regime and their impact on the chances of achieving transitional justice
- The Risks of Reproducing Injustice: Investigating Property Expropriation, Relocation, Hiring, and Layoff
- Economic Crimes and War Financing: Investigating corruption, resources, economic control, and contracting with past, present, and future companies
- Laws and legislation: Investigating laws, legislation, mechanisms and procedures that hinder or prevent transitional justice
- Rights of Religious and Ethnic Minorities: Investigating Violations Committed by the Former/Current Regime Against Minorities
- Institutional Reform: Investigate the reform of security and judicial apparatuses to ensure that violations are not repeated
- Documentation and Memory Preservation: Investigating Archiving and Documentation in Promoting Truth and Reconciliation
- Community Reconciliation: Investigating Efforts to Heal the Rift in Syria
Eligibility Criteria
- They are inviting Syrian and Arab investigative journalists inside and outside Syria to submit their investigation proposals to obtain full editorial, legal and financial support from ARIJ to produce these investigations.
Application Requirements
- Submit a clear investigative proposal that includes a hypothesis, methodology, evidence, potential sources, and a work plan.
- Adhere to ethical and professional journalism standards and ARIJ’s methodology.
