In order to support various challenges in “developing and cultivating new fields for precious metals,” the Tanaka Precious Metals Memorial Foundation has established a research grant system for institutions conducting research and development related to precious metals.
Starting in 2024, the 26th year of the award, the slogan will be “Creating a tomorrow that surpasses today with inspiration and sparkle,” and they will be inviting research and development themes that will contribute to creating a better future through the creativity of researchers and the potential of precious metals. In addition, they will change the name of the award and aim to make it a more attractive grant system.
Funding Information
- Total amount up to 20 million yen (maximum amount).
- Umekichi Tanaka Award: 10 million yen.
- Ichiro Tanaka Award: 3 million yen (Formerly “Gold Award”).
- Innovative Precious Metals Award: 1 million yen (Formerly known as the Silver Award).
- KIRAMEKI Award: 1 million yen (Formerly “Young Researcher Award”).
- HIRAMEKI Award: 300,000 yen (Formerly “TANAKA Special Award”).
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications must be from researchers (including postdoctoral researchers) who are affiliated (working) with educational institutions (universities, graduate schools, technical colleges), national or public research institutions or equivalent in Japan, or from researchers in research groups that belong to domestic academic societies.
Requirements
- It must be new research and development that utilizes or can be applied to precious metals and contributes to creating a sustainable future, and must meet any of the following criteria:
- New technology related to precious metals (new materials, processing methods, process development, etc.)
- Research that brings about revolutionary advances in product development (new functions, process development, computational science, etc.)
- Research and development of new products using precious metals.
