The University of Trieste, in collaboration with the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI) and the Regional Agency for the right to education of Friuli Venezia Giulia (ARDiS), is offering One Study Grant within the framework of ‘IUPALS – Italian Universities for Palestinian Students’.
This grant is intended to support a Palestinian university student currently residing in the Palestinian Territories.
Benefits
- Travel costs from Palestine to Italy, a one-way trip in economy class (€700 maximum);
- University tuition fee waiver;

- Monthly scholarship for daily expenses (€3,600/year = €300/month)
- Breakfast and two meals per day in the student canteen;
- Public or private health insurance in Italy (€700/year);
- Application for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) in Italy and other services (€200/year);
- Italian language course at the University of Trieste;
- Free or subsidised access to teaching aids, including electronic devices, such as tablets and PCs, aids for students with learning difficulties, etc;
- Free access to recreational and sports facilities with free or subsidised use of university sports facilities;
- Free public transport subscription;
- Free academic counselling to help with choosing courses, planning the study programme and managing academic deadlines;
- Psychological support for managing stress, anxiety or other emotional difficulties that may arise during their stay in Italy;
- Full support from the University’s international services and from teaching staff in charge of the project.
Funding Information
- The grant, with a total value of €15,000 per academic year.
- The grant will be awarded for 3 academic years and may be extended for an additional year should the student fail to obtain the degree within the deadlines established by the University of Trieste.
Eligibility Criteria
- Hold Palestinian citizenship and reside in Palestinian territories at the time of application;
- Possess a high school diploma that qualifies for entrance to higher education in Italy;
- Not be enrolled in another Italian university for the academic year 2025-2026;
- Have a B2 level of Italian language proficiency if applying to a degree taught in Italian;
- Have a B2 level of English language proficiency if applying to a degree taught in English;
- Have completed at least 12 years of schooling;
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of application;
- Be able to provide certified attendance of the Italian language course organised within the framework of the IUPALS project.
Selection Criteria
- All applications will be evaluated by the University Internationalisation Committee based on the following criteria:
- Phase 1:
- Relevance of the candidate’s qualifications to the chosen degree programme;
- Quality of the candidate’s curriculum vitae and studiorum;
- Motivation as demonstrated in the candidate’s motivational letter.

- All the required documents:
- Application form;
- Scanned copy of a valid passport;
- Scanned copy of their original high school diploma. The diploma must be legalised;
- Scanned copy of their original transcript for their high school diploma. The transcript must be legalised;
- An official translation into Italian or English of their high school diploma and transcript;
- An updated curriculum vitae, in English or in Italian;
- A motivational letter, in English or in Italian;
- A certificate demonstrating their proficiency in English or a self-certification stating that they have a B2 level of English (only for bachelor’s degree taught in English or Italian and English);
- A certificate of attendance from the Italian language course organised in the framework of the IUPALS project.
