The International Baccalaureate is seeking applications for its Global Youth Action Fund to identify and recognize motivated students between the ages of 12 and 19 who demonstrate the skills needed to become the socially conscious leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs the world needs today.
Through an application and review process, this platform will seek to award a grant for up to 150 student initiatives focusing on social impact and innovation. It will encourage projects that allow for additional students from their school community to take on leadership roles and demonstrate potential for the idea to continue to grow and make an impact in their community. Finalists will become part of an annual peer-to-peer network of diverse students, receive a grant to support their project, and participate in sessions with different guests to discuss topics related to social entrepreneurship.
Funding Information
- Up to 3,000 USD in grant funding, dependent on project needs. Funding is dependent on what students request and what the IB Global Youth Action Fund reviewers recommend.
- Mentorship and connection with leaders in social entrepreneurship and other student awardees from around the world.
Eligibility Criteria
- By participating applicants must:
- Agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions;
- Acknowledge compliance with these Terms and Conditions;
- Represent and warrant that applicant meets all of the eligibility criteria set forth in these Terms and Conditions;
- Agree to comply with any and all applicable federal, Canton and municipal, rules and regulations;
- Agree to release and hold harmless the IB and any employees thereof from and against all claims, injury, or damages arising out of or relating to participation in the platform and/or the use, misuse or redemption of the grant, and for any claim including claims based on defamation, publicity rights, invasion of privacy, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, or any other intellectual property related cause of action.
Selection Criteria
- To determine the finalists, the IB will be making a holistic evaluation of eligible entries using the following factors:
- Impact- Does the project demonstrate a clear positive impact on one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals? Preferences will be given to projects with the most impact.
- Stage of project- What stage of development is the project in (idea, in-development, scaling, established)? Preference will be given to projects that are further along in the development process and have the possibility of scaling.
- Collaboration- Does the project involve or have the capacity to involve other students? Preference will be given to projects that get more young people involved whenever possible.
- School Support- Applications will require one teacher recommendation form. Preferences will be given to students who have a teacher recommendation that demonstrates their support of the project in addition to their confidence in the students involved.
Application Requirements
- Applicants must submit an application available on the IB website with their legal/team member names, the school(s) in which they attend, and a name for their project.
- Applications may be submitted by a team of up to 8 students, and team members may attend different schools.
- Applications must include a pitch deck, recording pitch, and teacher recommendation. In addition, students must provide a funding level request in USD and a statement describing how the funding is intended to be used.
- Applicants are required to describe their project or initiative, their personal connection to the project or initiative, their prior experience in this area of interest, the intended impact on their community, and define key success indicators, including the people, skills and resources they will need to complete the project or initiative. e) Applicants must include a recommendation from 1 teacher at their school.
