The House of Human Sciences Foundation in partnership with the Research Institute for Development (IRD) are offering a mobility grant of 2-3 months to postdoctoral researchers residing in France who have defended their thesis from 2019.
The grants are provided for a stay in connection with the structuring devices of the IRD: International Mixed Laboratories (LMI) and young teams associated with the IRD JEAI).
Research projects in line with IRD’s scientific policy, in synergy with its researchers, will be supported. Interdisciplinary projects are welcome.

- Particular attention will be paid to projects that are in line with IRD’s scientific strategy and that are in line with the major multidisciplinary challenges at the heart of the Institute’s strategic issues:
- Geo-resources and sustainability
- Sustainable cities
- Coastal and marine
- One health
- Biodiversity
- Soil and Land
- Sustainable Food Systems
- Climate change
- Migration
Funding Information
- A financial aid of €1,400 per month (paid at the beginning of each month of stay) is attributed to the winners. It is intended to cover transportation and living expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality/residence: Be a citizen of a European Union country and reside in France
- Degree/status: Be a post-doctoral fellow in SHS and have defended his/her thesis from 2019. Be associated with a research unit in France.
- Proposals that are part of a sustainability science approach (transdisciplinarity, co-construction with stakeholders, participatory science) will be particularly welcome.
- Applicants must be engaged in research in the humanities and social sciences. Original, interdisciplinary projects (including a crossing of SHS & non-SHS) and bearing a renewed approach to research in and with the South, will be particularly welcome.
Selection Criteria
- A selection committee composed of members of the FMSH, the IRD, and external experts will analyze and select applications based on the following elements:
- The quality of the scientific file and the methodology developed
- The relevance of staying in one of the countries where the IRD research unit is located with respect to the project developed and the researcher’s background
- The ability to identify scientific contacts on site
- Preference will be given to researchers who have never benefited from the program.
Application Requirements
- The research project (10,000 characters long, not including spaces) which must include:
- The problematic and the objectives of the research project, contribution to the South
- Methodology including how the project will be implemented with the South
- A bibliography,
- Details of the program (places and institutions to visit, contacts)
- A CV of maximum 2 pages
- A list of the five main publications and/or research achievements with scientific and/or societal impacts
- A copy of the thesis diploma
- A signed letter of motivation, stating the scientific and organizational reasons for the request for financial support
- Letter of support from the LMI management or the JEAI coordinating team identifying the institutional partners in the field
- A letter from the director of the laboratory/research center with which the applicant is associated in France.
