Apply for Hangar Production Grants (Spain)

Deadline: 1 December 2024

The Hangar, an open centre for artistic research and production in Barcelona, is calling for applications for its Production Grants to provide grant recipients with the budget, space and technical conditions required to produce a work and contribute to its dissemination.

One of the two grants in this call will be reserved for Hangar’s resident artists. It implements all stages in the production of a project: from the preparation of feasibility reports, development and control of budgets, to the construction, assembly and detailed maintenance of productions that include experimental research of materials.

Objectives

  • To assist creators in their research and/or production activities, in their experimental work and in the development and completion of their projects.
  • To provide artists with advice on issues relating to production: production planning, budgeting and management, or research into materials and construction processes.
  • To promote the documentation, publication, dissemination, transfer and exchange of knowledge on production structures in the field of creation.

Benefits

  • Hangar will provide the beneficiary with:
    • Technical support for the development and production of the project. Scholarship recipients will have a package of hours of advice for the feasibility study, production design, technical consultations or administrative support.
    • Hangar has different spaces that can be used depending on availability with a maximum of 6 uses during the development of the scholarship.
    • The subsidized price per artist will be applied to the tasks assigned to the Hangar technical team, the extra use of space or audiovisual material not included in the previous sections.
    • Hangar will make available to the scholarship recipients the contacts of its network of collaborators: suppliers, technicians, techno-scientific research centers or other artistic and cultural institutions that may be needed.
    • Hangar will support the dissemination and public presentation of the project.
    • These scholarships do not cover travel expenses from the place of residence to the center, nor accommodation or food expenses.
    • These scholarships do not include the use of the workshop.

Funding Information

  • Each scholarship is endowed with €7,000 gross for the development of the chosen project, of which a minimum of 15% (€1,050.00) and a maximum of 30% (€2,100.00) will be honorariums.
  • The duration of the two scholarships is three consecutive months to be carried out between January 1 and June 30, 2025.

Eligible Projects

  • The use of spaces and technical material will be governed by the conditions included in the loan forms that must be signed for each use.
  • A public presentation of the project will be made, which may be at Hangar or in another jointly agreed space depending on possible co-productions or collaborations.
  • The Hangar logo will be included as producer or co-producer in the credits and in all types of communication and dissemination material for future exhibitions. If in any case the appearance of the logo is not possible, the project will be disseminated and displayed accompanied by the text: “Project produced with the support of the 2023 Production Grant. Hangar.org Center for Artistic Production and Research”
  • The artist will assign to Hangar the rights of public communication for any country in the world, for dissemination and communication (publications, press dossier, center website, social networks, etc.)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Participation in this call for proposals is open to all artists and individual and collective creators working in the field of contemporary creation. In the case of collectives, a person responsible for the project must be appointed.
  • Production grants are aimed at artists with original and unpublished projects, with special value being placed on the solidity of the project and its adaptation to the budget and schedule proposed in the dossier submitted in the call for proposals.
  • The grants are aimed at artists who meet at least one of the following conditions:
    • The subject of the proposal must be related to the city of Barcelona or its metropolitan area.
    • The candidate person or entity must reside in the city of Barcelona or its metropolitan area.
    • The candidate person or entity must be linked to the cultural fabric of Barcelona or its metropolitan area and this can be deduced from the content of the documentation submitted.

Evaluation Criteria

  • The jury will evaluate the projects based on the information sent:
    • The presentation of all documents and materials requested by the call, in the requested format and with the indicated extension.
    • The quality of the conceptual proposal and the description of the project.
    • The relevance and coherence of the project in the context of the artist’s career.
    • The specificity of the work plan and the technical and economic viability of the proposal.

Application Requirements

  • Each artist may submit a single project, which must be original.
  • These grants are compatible with other awards and grants, in the form of co-production.
  • The project must be carried out within a maximum period of three consecutive months, which must be completed before 30 June 2025.
  • The expenses subsidized by the grant must be incurred within three months of the project’s execution.
