Applications are now open for the Peter Laing Agriculture Trust Grants to assist people who intend to follow a practical farming career.
Peter Laing Agriculture Trust grants are designed to assist young people obtain practical training for entry into the agricultural industry (e.g. through a cadet scheme, or certificate; diploma level of study) or alternatively, for those commencing their first farm employment and requiring dogs, or specialist equipment such as a saddle. Applications for University assistance are unlikely to be successful as the trust objectives are to assist those who intend to follow a practical farming career.
Eligible Expenses
- You can apply for a grant to pay for:
- practical training to help you enter the agricultural industry (e.g., through a cadet scheme, or certificate or diploma level of study)
- specialist equipment, such as a saddle, or to buy a working dog, if you’re starting a career in pastoral farming.
Eligibility Criteria
- You need to meet the following criteria you must:
- be a resident in the Wairarapa or have strong links with the Wairarapa
- have a focus on pastoral farming with a planned career path
- a strong desire to expand knowledge and interest in agriculture.
Evaluation Criteria
- Assessment of applications will be based on merit and will look for:
- a clearly considered and planned career path
- initiative to extend knowledge and interest in agriculture
- a realistic commitment to work in the industry.
- Grant recipients must be able to act as an ambassador for the Trust and promote the grant and will be expected to attend the annual awards function.
