Apply for the AHA Newcastle Hunter – Paul Woseen Memorial Music Grant that aims to support aspiring local singer/songwriters in their creative endeavours while fostering the city’s live music industry.
Through this initiative, they strive to encourage young singer/songwriters to pursue music as a career and to perpetuate Paul Woseen’s passion for music and his commitment to the art of songwriting and performance.
Objectives
The objectives of this grant include:
- Financial Support: Provide financial assistance to local singer/songwriters at various stages of their careers, helping them pursue their artistic projects, and ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their creative potential.
- Artistic Development: Encourage the growth and development of local singer/songwriters, offering them resources and opportunities to build industry relationships, refine their craft, and bring their musical ideas to life.
- Industry Building: Provide opportunities for aspiring, local singer/songwriters to pursue a career in the recording and performing of original music.
- Honouring the legacy of Paul Woseen: Preserve and celebrate the legacy of Paul Woseen by offering this grant in his name to support and showcase talented local singer/songwriters, thereby perpetuating his love for music, songwriting, and performance.
What can the cash component be used for?
Recipients can use the $5,000 cash component for projects such as (but not limited to):
- Festival performances
- Showcase opportunities
- NSW, National & International tours
- Album or EP recording
- Album or EP release PR & marketing
- Composition development
Who can apply?
To apply you must be:
- An artist or band over the age of `18 and residing within one of the Greater Newcastle Local Government Areas including Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland, or Cessnock and able to demonstrate a link to the Newcastle LGA through either music-related study, recording or performance.
- An artist or band with an unpublished original song, or part thereof, ready to work on
- Available and willing to record and produce an original song in line with the grant framework, at the Hunter campus of TAFE NSW between 1st May and 31st August 2024 and participate in an official song launch event at the Stag & Hunter Hotel on Friday, 6 September 2024.
