The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) is excited to announce the ABA-FAER Research in Education Grant Program for the year 2025.
The goal of the ABA-FAER Research in Education Grant is to provide an outstanding research experience for an anesthesiologist on faculty at an academic institution who is interested in graduate medical education and physician lifelong learning.

- Funding Amount: $100,000 over two years
- Duration: Over two years
Eligible Projects
- Proposed research projects should address one of the following elements of ABA certification:
- The value of primary certification and the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology™ program to clinicians and the public, including assessment of how certification is related to clinical performance and novel means to analyze and utilize data, or
- The validity and impact of the ABA’s new primary certification program the staged examination process (BASIC, ADVANCED, APPLIED Examinations), including reliability and novel measures of external validity.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants for the FA-REG must be ABA diplomates who are not currently and will not be pursuing ABA additional certifications during the grant period.
- Anesthesiologist faculty member of any rank.
Application Requirements
- The following materials will be submitted as a part of the application:
- A precis outlining the background, rationale, specific aims, and approach to the proposed project (500 words).
- A description of the candidate’s background and interests in education research (500 words).
- A career development plan, including long-term career goals, and how the ABAFAER award will contribute to these goals (500 words). Those applicants proposing a primary mentor from their own institution should include the role of the mentor in this plan.
- A biosketch.
- For those applicants without a track record of education research, a letter of support from a primary mentor (preferably with experience in education research) that includes a description of the mentor’s qualifications.
- Letter of support from the department chair, including a commitment to providing at least 40% of protected effort to conduct the proposed research and time to travel to the ABA offices for up to two weeks annually.
- An itemized budget.
