The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) is now accepting applications for a Fellowship under the Japan Chair for a World without Nuclear Weapons programme.
The VCDNP is an international non-governmental organisation based in Vienna, Austria. The Center conducts research, facilitates dialogue, and builds capacity on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation issues.
The Fellow will work alongside the Japan Chair and other VCDNP researchers and interact with experts from the IAEA, CTBTO, other international organisations in Vienna, as well as representatives from national governments and academia.
The Fellow is expected to:
- Conduct research on nuclear disarmament issues in support of the Japan Chair for a World without Nuclear Weapons programme
- Contribute to other research and programmatic activities at the VCDNP
- Write articles and provide briefings on disarmament and non-proliferation topics
- Present research results at conferences and workshops
- Assist with drafting and editing of publications as required
- Perform other related tasks as mutually agreed upon
Funding Information
- The duration of the fellowship will be between 3 to 6 months and will take place in person in Vienna, Austria. The VCDNP will cover the Fellow’s economy roundtrip airfare and will offer a stipend, commensurate to research and work experience, starting at 4,000 Euro per month.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants must:
- Be a Japanese national
- Be able to obtain a visa in Austria
- Have a Master’s degree or a PhD in a field related to the VCDNP’s work, such as international relations, political science, international law and similar
- Have a strong interest in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation issues, including multilateral diplomacy
- Have solid and consolidated experience conducting research projects, producing publications and/or organising events
- Possess excellent writing and analytical skills and excellent command of the English language
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Be familiar with virtual meeting software applications, such as Zoom
- The position requires light to moderate physical effort and the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
