In collaboration with the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), the French Embassy in Ukraine and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the three French overseas research institutes in Central Europe (UMIFRE) are offering a double scholarship programme for Ukrainian researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
Funding Information
- Non-residential grants of EUR 2,000 each will be awarded on a one-off basis to support research activities in partnership with French, German, Polish and Czech colleagues in the three UMIFREs
- Residential research grants in France worth EUR 2,050/month for stays ranging from 15 days to 2 months.
- The winners will be associated with one of the UMIFREs (CEFRES, CMB, IRECA) for a period of six months, from June to December 2025.
- A one-week workshop in Fall 2025 will bring together the winners of the programme, members of three UMIFREs and Central European colleagues (in English).
- Throughout their non-residential stay, the Ukrainian colleagues will have access to the scientific activities of the UMIFREs in hybrid mode.
- The winners will have access to the databases offered by the CNRS.
Eligibility Criteria
- Ukrainian researchers with a doctorate (kandidat nauk/doktor nauk) in one of the humanities or social sciences who have had to or chosen to remain in Ukraine since the Russian invasion.
- The projects will be assessed on their quality and interest for bilateral cooperation by a scientific committee made up of experts in the humanities and social sciences and representatives of the French diplomatic network through the French Institute in Ukraine.
Selection Criteria
- Ukrainian researchers who have a scientific degree (Candidate/Doctor of Science) in the field of humanities or social sciences and who were forced or decided to remain on the territory of Ukraine after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
- Projects will be evaluated for their quality and significance for bilateral scientific cooperation by a scientific committee consisting of experts in the humanities and social sciences, as well as representatives of French diplomatic structures, in particular the French Institute in Ukraine.
Application Requirements
- Candidates should send the following documents (in English or French):
- Research project (maximum 4 pages);
- A motivation letter (maximum 2 pages) stating:
- Desired length of stay in France
- Desired period of stay
- The impact of war on research activities (optional)
- An invitation letter (maximum 1 page) from an identified scientific partner in France
- Academic resume (CV) with an updated list of publications
